Drunken Felon Shot Gun in Lower Frederick, Police Say

Daniel DeFreitas, of Eagleville, faces numerous charges relating to an alleged March 25 incident.

 

An Eagleville man was arrested after he allegedly drunkenly shot at a tree near an apartment building in Lower Frederick on March 25, according to police.

Lower Frederick and Pennsylvania State Police officers responded to a report of a man firing a handgun near Second Avenue and Main Street in the Spring Mount section of Lower Frederick at 9:30 p.m., according to Lower Frederick Police.

Daniel DeFreitas was allegedly found to be in possession of a .380 caliber handgun in the waistband of his pants, according to police.

“He went outside and was firing randomly into a tree about eight feet behind a building with children in it,” Lower Frederick Police Chief Paul Maxey told the Pottstown Mercury.

Maxey said that DeFreitas was visiting a female friend in the apartments at the time of the incident.

DeFreitas, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing a handgun.  He was charged with reckless endangering another person, disorderly conducti, and possessing small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia, according to court records.

DeFreitas was committed to Montgomery County prison after failing to post $10,000 bail.
