An Exton man went to Phoenixville Hospital last weekend after he apparently shot himself while driving, Upper Providence Police are reporting. According to the department, the 33-year-old, whose name is being withheld, was driving in the southbound lane of route 29 in Mont Clare on Sunday at approximately 3 a.m. when he attempted to transfer a .38-caliber handgun from his pants to his jacket pocket and accidentally discharged the weapon, shooting himself in the left lower leg. The man was able to drive himself to Phoenixville Hospital after giving himself the wound, where Upper Providence Police met him and filled out an incident report. Lower Providence Police led the chase of alleged copper thieves, which ended in an attempted swim escape across the Schuylkill River.
Lower Providence Police report that the discovery of an attempted theft of approximately $300 worth of copper piping from the Collegeville Inn, resulted in a multi-municipal police car chase, after which, one of the suspects attempted to elude authorities by swimming across the Schuylkill River. The incident was reported on Dec. 28, when Lower Providence Police officer Jeremy Bonner was on routine patrol at approximately 9:32 a.m. The officer observed a length of rope hanging between the rear door of the Collegeville Inn, located at 4000 Ridge Pike in the Collegeville section of the township. Eight locks were pried open or cut off in three gym clubs, including the Downingtown location; cell phones, wallets and cash were stolen.
The Downingtown Police Department has confirmed several locker thefts at LA Fitness gym locations in Collegeville, Pottstown and Downingtown on Wednesday evening. Around 7:15 pm, Downingtown Police received a report that three locks had been cut off of lockers in the men's locker room. The male victims lost a wallet with credit cards, $150 in cash, and two iPhones, one of which included an Otter Box and was valued at $600. Upper Providence Township Police refused to provide any information relating to the ongoing investigation in the Collegeville LA Fitness.
