Girl Scout Troop to Donate Permanent Trappe Christmas Tree

The cookie sales from Troop 7254 will go towards the purchase of a permanent tree for the Speaker's House.

When local residents purchase Girls Scout Cookies from Troop 7254, they are getting a lot more than Thin Mints and Samoas. The troop, from South Elementary, is using the profits of this year’s cookie sales to purchase a new, permanent Christmas Tree for Trappe, which will live at the Speaker’s House on Main Street and be used for the annual tree lighting. Troop 7254, comprised of fourth and fifth graders, has been involved in the tree lighting since it began in 2011 by providing refreshments to residents who come out for the festivities. “We, as a troop, are ‘green,’” said Norma Grosick, Troop Leader. “We thought it would be nice to plant a tree at the Speaker’s House, so that each year a tree doesn’t have to be cut down.” Grosick brought…

Speaker's House Tree Lighting [PHOTOS]

Elected officials, local groups and families celebrated the season at the Speaker's House in Trappe Borough.

Trappe Today and Tomorrow welcomed residents to celebrate the holiday season with a tree lighting at the Speaker's House on Wednesday, complete with a visit from Santa. Music was provided by the Perkiomen Valley Middle School chorus and the Community Music School, and Trappe Mayor Connie Peck lit the tree as dozens of community members watched. The Douglas Fir was purchased by Justin Bartolomucci of Edward Jones in Trappe, and was transported by Varner's farm. Ms. Aretha Singer's South Elementary School art students provided the hand-made ornaments. Refreshments were served by Boy Scout Troop 7155 and the Collegeville Rotary Club. Collections were taken up for non-perishable food items, toys and food donations. Did we catch you in our lens…

Looking Ahead for Trappe Fire Company

An old firehouse and aging vehicles has Trappe Borough Council and the Trappe Fire Company planning for the future.

Trappe Councilman Marshall Stomel reported at the October 2, 2012 monthly Council meeting that the Streets, Traffic and Safety committee met with the fire company to discuss planning and options. “Our fire house is 100 years old,” reported Fire Chief Brian Long. “We’ve built expansions over the years, but it’s old. The basement walls are crumbling and we’re doing the best we can right now." The volunteer fire company receives 38% of its revenue from Trappe Borough, 40% from donations and 22% from Upper Providence (the Trappe fire company responds to calls in parts of Upper Providence township). The Trappe Fire Company and Ambulance service operate out of one building, but they are separate entities. While the fire company is a volunteer …

Trappe Borough Swears in New Councilman and Appoints New VP

Marshall Stomel returns to Trappe Borough council seat and Paul Edwards is appointed to vice president at the March Borough Council meeting.

Matt Watson's resignation from Trappe Borough Council last month left several vacancies. One council seat, the office of vice president, and an appointment for Public Works all needed to be filled at the March 6 Trappe Borough meeting. The open council position was advertised and applications were accepted until Feb. 24. Marshall Stomel was the only applicant. Stomel served on the Borough Council from May to December 2011. After a brief public interview, Stomel was sworn in by Mayor Connie Peck and took a seat at the council table. His term runs through Dec. 31, 2013. All council members participated in a vote to elect a new vice president and a new Public Works representative. Paul Edwards was appointed to the vice president position and …

Road Reconstruction and Maintenance Schedule Discussed at Trappe Borough Council Meeting

Engineer reports on the quality of Trappe Borough roads and a local volunteer is honored for service at monthly meeting.

Trappe Borough engineer, John Sartor, presented information on road conditions to council members at the December 6, 2011 monthly meeting. Discussion ensued around the 35 borough-maintained streets and the idea of a 15-year timeline to reconstruct the “bad roads” and provide maintenance to other roads. “You realize that at the end of 15 years, you start all over again,” noted Borough Manager Jacqui Guenther. Engineer John Sartor said that most municipalities use a time schedule for road maintenance. Borough Council asked Sartor to present a timeline to them for consideration at the January meeting. President Fred Schuetz honored borough volunteer Doris Houck for her work on the establishment and maintenance of landscape beds over the years…

Food and Fun at Trappe Barn Dance

A sea of cowboy hats and plaid shirts filled the Trappe Fire Company Saturday night.

More than 150 people attended the first annual Trappe Barn Dance on Saturday, Nov. 12. The fiddlers tightened their strings and the dance caller barked "promenade your partner, swing your corner, do-si-do" as dozens packed the dance floor. Many neighbors took the opportunity to catch up with one another over a dinner of roast beef sandwiches and homemade soups. Trappe Borough Manager Jacqui Guenther organized the event and also showcased her culinary creativity at the dessert bar where barnyard cake pops, brownie-skirted dancing ladies and cowlicious cupcakes were enjoyed by all. Wine tasting, beer and soft drinks were also available. Area businesses donated raffle baskets and all proceeds from the evening were split between the Trappe …

PV Student Receives Award from Mayor at Trappe Council Meeting

A Good Citizenship Award and new opportunities for the Trappe Ambulance Company were part of the November Trappe Borough meeting.

"I am pleased to award this 'Borough of Trappe Certificate of Achievement' to Paul Edwards for his efforts in attaching 190 decals on storm drain inlets," said Trappe Mayor Connie Peck. Edwards, a junior at Perkiomen Valley High School, completed the work in an effort to make people aware that what goes into the storm drains affects the waterways. His work not only saved the borough money, but assisted Trappe in meeting MS4 requirements. During the public forum of the Nov. 1 monthly Trappe Borough Council meeting, Clint Tichnell, Deputy Chief of EMS, informed Trappe Council, and the public, of partnerships the Trappe Ambulance Company is seeking.
