Teen Airlifted in Swamp Pike Accident

A female PJP2 student has been identified as the driver taken by MedEvac helicopter to ICU.

A Pope John Paul II High School student was one of the drivers involved in a major accident Friday on Swamp Pike. The school said on its Facebook page Friday night that senior Maddie Maurer was in stable condition in the ICU following the three-car accident near the grounds of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, where students were in the process of being dismissed from school when the crash took place at about 2:45 p.m. Chief William Albany of the Limerick Township Police Department said that the crash involved two female drivers, later identified by the school as Maurer and fellow student Meghan Kugler, traveling westbound on the roadway, and an as-yet unidentified male driver in a truck headed eastbound. Weekend Sobriety Checkpoint Nets Pair of Arrests

A man from Royersford and a man from Philadelphia are facing DUI charges after entering a previously announced sobriety checkpoint.

A weekend sobriety checkpoint conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police and the New Hanover Police Department has lead to the arrest or two men on suspicion of DUI. The checkpoint, which was located near the intersection of Swamp Pike and Route 663 in New Hanover Township, had previously been announced by the state police, though the exact location was not revealed in their original press release. According to the police report, 23-year-old Spencer Ecker, of Philadelphia, was stopped at the checkpoint at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Saturday, August 4. The report states that Ecker exhibited signs of intoxication, and as a result, he was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI. Ecker was given a chemical breath test, and charges will be …
