Skippack Elementary Replacing Desk Chairs with Stability Balls

Teachers are slowly replacing classroom chairs with stability balls in an effort to focus on health and wellness.

  Teachers at Skippack Elementary are slowly replacing classroom chairs with staibility balls to couple its academics with a focus on health and wellness. According to a press release from Skippack Elementary, 19 classrooms now use stability balls for children. Research shows that students, when permitted to move and stretch during learning, show greater gains in focus and core strength, according to the release. Kindergarten teacher Chris Halus has students using stability donuts during independent rading. "The children welcome the opportunities to replace their desk chairs with stability balls," said third grade teacher Amy Dorris said.

For everyone who is knocking this, what do you know? Honestly what is wrong with trying new ways to excite the children and give them something to look forward to? My child LOVES when she gets the chance to use the ball. Don't give me the "tax dollar" arguement. We pay our higher tax rate due to the fact of there is very little business money in our area.
