Fire Damages Skippack Businesses [UPDATE]

The two-alarm fire on Friday started in a pile of Mulch behind the building at 4007 Skippack Pike.

  Hours before  the first Skippack First Friday festivities of the season were set to begin, a two-alarm fire broke out on the 4000 block of Skippack Pike in Skippack Village, causing significant damage to several stores. The fire started around 1:30 p.m. Friday at 4007 Skippack Pike in Skippack Village, which houses businesses including Merle Norman Cosmetics, Hodge Podge and Head Over Heels, causing significant damage to the buildings. Skippack Fire Chief Haydn Marriott, IV, told The Reporter the cause of the fire was a pile of mulch behind the building. Skimmers Found on Area ATMs

Authorities believe the identity-theft devices were identified and removed quickly.

ATM skimmers ― illicit devices that blend into a cash machine's card slot, then record bank card info for later retrieval by a thief ― were found on two bank ATMs in Montgomery County earlier this month. PhillyBurbs.com reports that the devices were found on Jan. 5 and 6 on the ATMs of Wells Fargo branches on Skippack Pike in Whitpain and Whitemarsh townships. Authorities believe that the devices were discovered quickly and that no customer accounts were compromised. Other skimmers have recently been found on ATMs in Bucks County and in Medford, NJ. PSP: Criminal Mischief Leads to Sewage Overflow in Worcester

  Criminal Mischief/Criminal Tresspass Police are investigating a report of criminal mischief/criminal trespass at Miller Environmental, located on Defford and Valley Forge Roads in Worcester between Jan. 11 at 2:40 p.m. and Jan. 12 at 12:10 p.m.. Unknown suspects entered the main gate by unknown means and tampered with valves leading to sewage and water talks, causing it to overflow with sewage. Anyone with information is asked to call PSP Skippack at 610-584-1250 and reference K03-1897189. Report: Dump Truck Fire on Skippack Pike

No injuries reported

A fire reportedly destroyed a dump truck on Skippack Pike near the intersection of Cross Road on Tuesday morning. WPVI-TV reported that the driver escaped safely from the truck and that nobody was hurt. The location is close to the construction entrance for ongoing work at the State Correctional Institution at Graterford, but it wasn't clear whether the truck was involved with that work.

UPDATE: Collegeville Girl Struck in Downtown Skippack

A 16-year-old Collegeville girl was struck after stepping into the road, according to police.

Nov. 4 Update: A 16-year-old Collegeville girl was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle on Skippack Pike and Route 113 on Nov. 2 at 4 p.m., according to a report from the Pennsylvania State Police The report states that the girl, who was walking west on the sidewalk on Rt. 113 at Skippack Pike, stepped into the road for an unknown reason, directly infront of a Toyota Corolla driven by Joseph Carella of Telford. The girl was then transported to Pennsylvania Hospital for further evaluation, according to the police. There is no indication that this is an ongoing investigation. Skippack Pike Will Be Closed for Railroad Crossing Repairs

Skippack Pike between North Wales Rd. and Route 202 will be closed for one week beginning Oct. 15.

From Whitpain Township Police: Skippack Pike will be closed between North Wales Rd. and Route 202 in Whitpain Township for approximately one week beginning Oct. 15. The closure will allow CSX to accomplish much needed upgrades to the railroad crossing, which will enhance safety for motorists on Skippack Pike. Residents and businesses will continue to have full access to their properties, but Skippack Pike will be completely closed at the railroad crossing. Advance notice signs have been places on Skippack Pike to alert motorists to the planned closure. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time. Rabies Found Near Skippack Pike in Blue Bell

A bat caught on the 900 block of Skippack Pike has tested positive for rabies.

Whitpain Township is reporting that a bat caught on the 900 block of Skippack Pike in Blue Bell has tested positive for rabies.  "Anyone that has been bitten, scratched or had saliva exposure by a bat must receive treatment to prevent this fatal disease. If you, someone in your household, or any of your pets have possibly had contact with a bat or any other stray or wild animal, immediately call the Montgomery County Health Department, Division of Communicable Disease Control at (610) 278-5117," reports the Township.

Brownie Troops Hold Alex's Lemonade Stand

The fundraiser netted at least hundreds of dollars in event and online donations

Local Brownie Troops 71599 and 72131 set up lemonade stands to raise money for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. An estimated 50 cups had already been distributed within 30 minutes of the event's start. The event had a great turn out with lots of people donating and dancing to the live music.
