Kelly Thunstrom, local arts reviewer, attended opening night of Pope John Paul II High School's 'Disney Beauty and the Beast.'
Pope John Paul II High School’s Studio 38 Drama Department has become renowned in the area for putting on class-act spring musicals. Their 2013 performance of Disney Beauty and the Beast easily continues the tradition, with exquisite costumes (courtesy of a squadron of costume moms), beautiful and complicated sets (courtesy of four set designers and a team of builders), gorgeous music (courtesy of musical director/conductor Eleanor Bono Griffin and a 16-member orchestra), and a cast and crew of 200 students (yes, you read that correctly). Director/choreographer Marusia Griffin Lynn has assembled a very talented group of students, young children, and adults to be a part of her latest endeavor. What makes PJPII productions different from …

The 20-year-old victim was trying to hop a fence separating the two tracks on Thursday evening when he was struck by a westbound train. The senior at the regional Catholic high school in Upper Providence Township was on her way home through Limerick Township when she was involved in a head-on collision. A Lansdale Borough Police officer fired in June 2010 for failing to appear at a preliminary hearing — and allegedly lying during Loudermill hearings with borough police officials and administrators as to why he missed the hearing — had his job reinstated by a Montgomery County Common Pleas Court judge in January. The borough is appealing. A car traveling along the Pennsylvania Turnpike lost control and ended up falling 65 feet below, …

After his game against Methacton, Patch caught up with the running back and asked him a few questions.
What position do you play? Running back What is the toughest part about being a running back? The toughest thing would be finding the holes. It’s harder than what it was in middle school. You have to be aware of what you need to do. Our offensive line is doing a great job, though. To go through the hole in the offensive line, they have to create an opening for me so I can get the chance for a touchdown for them." When did you start to play football, and why did you choose football? I started playing football when I was 4 with flag (football). My dad has always been a big fan of football and has been my inspiration to play and I just love the game. I love everything about it. Who are your role models? For playing-wise, I like Reggie Bush …

A look back at the scores and stats from PJPII's sports games yesterday.
Boys Varsity Soccer vs. Methacton The following information was provided by Coach Jerry DeLeo: In the 35th minute of a game on a sunny and warm day in Royersford, the Methacton Warriors stole a 2-1 road win against the Golden Pathers of PJP. DoYoung Kwak opened the scoring in the 25th minute on a rocket into the upper 90 from 25 yards out to open the scoring for Methacton. But just 5 minutes later, Ryan Ianovale scored on a low hard cross from Brendan Csongradi to tie things up. Unfortunately for The Golden Panthers, this deadlock lasted just 5 minutes until fate smiled on The Warriors Andrew Goff who caught a PJP defender tracking an attacker back to his own net. The cross was struck hard and the PJP defender simply couldn’t get out …
The PJPII boys JV football team tore up the Methacton Warriors today.
Cowbells, cheers and whistles could be heard from Warrior Field on Monday, as the Pope John Paul II Panthers took on the Methacton Warriors. Despite Methacton's efforts, the Panthers netted victory, 43 to 22. "They played awesome," said head coach Jim Bildstein. "The group of sophomores that we have is a very special group, and if they stay together, and they work hard over the next few years, they can go on to do great things. Mix that with our juniors, and it's a nice group." The first and second quarters belonged to PJPII, with the Panthers scoring 29 points and Methacton scoring only 14. The Warriors refused to give up, living up to their name and fighting for their team the whole game. PJPII fumbled the ball with 2:15 left in the …

Patch caught up with the Center Midfield Striker after his game this past Monday.
When it comes to soccer, Victor Rodgriguez knows it. He's been playing a long time, and so has his family. Patch caught up with him after his game and here's what he had to say. Position: Center Midfield Striker Toughest part about being a center mid striker: I get hit a lot. How long have you been playing, and why did you choose soccer? I’ve been playing since I was 3, and I chose it because my dad grew up playing it, and it was kind of brought down to me. He used to take me out to play." Role model/influence on your life: My dad. He followed me through everything and never gave up on me. He was my coach since I was 15.” How do you get into the mindset before a game?
