PVSD's Jessica Lester provided the following information: The Perkiomen Valley School District and the Pennsylvania Department of Health are reminding parents and caregivers of the upcoming May 1, 2012, deadline to ensure that school-aged children have had all required immunizations. When the 2011-12 school year began, families were given an eight-month provisional period to bring students up-to-date, and that period is now coming to a close. The deadline for required school immunizations is approaching and will occur on or about April 30 for most schools. Parents must provide the school with an updated immunization record prior to the deadline or their child may not be permitted to attend school. Parents should review their children’s vaccine status and if the child is up to date contact the school nurse with this information. If the child is not up to date, parents should contact their healthcare provider to receive the vaccine. To help parents and caregivers who do not have a family physician or health insurance meet the requirements, the Montgomery County Health Department is holding four evening immunization clinics for school-age children. Lower Frederick Police Department's Chief Paul Maxey submitted the following information: The Lower Frederick Township Police Department is hosting a traffic safety educational program training on Wednesday, Jan. 25, coordinated by the Montgomery County Health Department and Buckle Up Pennsylvania. This free training for police officers is funded through a traffic safety initiative from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Local police departments attending the training include, Limerick, Lower Frederick, Franconia, Norristown, Pottstown, Royersford, Upper Perkiomen District and the Pennsylvania State Police. Infected individual has visited three places during infectious period.
A Montgomery County resident who recently traveled to Nigeria may have exposed other residents to measles, county health officials announced this afternoon. Nigeria is in the midst of an ongoing measles outbreak. The infected individual is known to have visited three places during the infectious period.
