Support Local Fire Hall with Pig Roast

A June 1 pig roast will be held in Lower Frederick to support its neighbor.

They already spend a majority of their time giving back to the community, but come June 1, they'll give a little more. Instead of fighting area fires, the Lower Frederick Fire Company, located in Spring Mount, will lend its firehall space for a fundraiser for a neighbor: Upper Frederick Fire Company. Battalion Chief Thomas Gamon V said that there "will be good food, music and raffles." "Tickets are $20 per person," said Gamon. "Come out and support our neighbor." Small Blaze at Skippack Home

A small fire on the property of 1280 Plank Road, Skippack, was quickly doused, with a rear portion of the house suffering minor damage. According to Skippack Fire Chief Haydn Marriott IV, some furniture outside of the house was set fire around 11 p.m. Monday, May 21. Pennsylvania State Police was handling the investigation as fire crews cleared the scene, he said. Perkiomen, Schwenksville and Lower Frederick fire companies also responded to the scene. Update: Driver Arrested Following One-Car Crash in Lower Frederick

Schwenksville woman suspected of DUI of a controlled substance

Schwenksville resident Phyllys Callery, of Riverside Avenue, was arrested on suspicion of DUI of a controlled substance after and hitting a fence and flipping her car in a one-vehicle crash in Lower Frederick, Wednesday afternoon, May 2. Callery was driving eastbound in the 100 block of Zieglerville Road, and a witness reported her Toyota Corolla was traveling at a high rate of speed. When Callery approached a sharp left curve in the road, the car drove off the road, hitting a resident's fence and going up part of a tree trunk before the vehicle flipped, coming to rest on its roof, said Lower Frederick Police Chief Paul Maxey. Local Stations Mourn Firefighters Killed In Kensington

Fire companies throughout the city and suburbs flew flags at half staff.

Just days removed from the death of two Philadelphia Firefighters at a Kensington blaze, fire brethren mourned their fallen peers. From Philadelphia Fire Ladder Company 10, Lt. Robert Neary, 60, and Firefighter Daniel Sweeney, 25, were killed fighting a five-alarm warehouse fire on Tuesday. Services were held for both firefighters Saturday. Throughout the city and suburbs, -- including Perkiomen Valley -- fire companies raised flags at half staff to honor Neary and Sweeney. Others hung black bunting.

Fire Crews Rescue Man from Car in Lower Frederick Crash

Early reports indicate driver not seen at crash site

James Seydel provided some of the following information: A man was trapped in the back seat of a car after it crashed at American Classic Motors, 315 Big Road, Lower Frederick, shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday, March 31. He was freed after emergency responders removed the vehicle's roof. The driver's whereabouts are unreported at this time. Emergency personnel did not see a second person at the scene, and he or she may have left the scene. Lower Frederick and Skippack fire companies, Lower Frederick Regional Ambulance Corps and and Pennsylvania State Police. PECO was alerted that a ground cable and nearby meter may have been impacted by the crash. Patch will publish more information as it becomes available.

Lower Frederick Fire Company Marks 75 Years of Service

In 1937 Lower Frederick Township Fire Company bought its first fire truck for about what it would cost you to buy an iPad, and the rest, as they say, is history. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the township’s fire company and to celebrate, the fire department invited some of its older volunteers to its annual banquet to join in the festivities. A total of 105 current and former Lower Frederick volunteer firefighters and their family members celebrated the anniversary last month, at the township’s firehouse and among them was current fire Chief Scott Angstadt. Angstadt has been a resident of Lower Frederick for 17 years and fire chief for seven years, and said he enjoyed being around former chiefs and volunteers. He’s pretty sure …

Welcome Home, Cpl. Joe Malec

Local Marine gets escort for return home

Lower Frederick and Schwenksville fire companies were among the local organizations that took part in "A Hero's Welcome" for local Marine Cpl. Joseph (Joe) Malec, in Schwenksville, Sunday, Feb. 12. Malec has served in the United States Marine Corps for the past four years, and he has recently re-enlisted, according to an e-mail from his mother-in-law, who requested the welcome. His service included one year in Afghanistan. Malec and his wife, Rachel, have two sons -- Ryan, 4, and Gunner, about 10 months. This is the first time Malec has met Gunner, the e-mail states, who was born six weeks early. (Source)

Fire Damages Skippack Dwelling

No injuries reported; structure was undergoing refurbishment

Area fire crews controlled a Skippack house fire in less than hour early Friday afternoon, Feb. 3. The residents of 4991 Skippack Pike have been living elsewhere as their home undergoes repiars/refurbishments. Workers were using a wood stove for heat this morning, and the fact that the structure's chimney is against the rafters helped start the blaze shortly before noon, according to Skippack Fire Chief Haydn Marriott IV. No workers or firefighters were injured. Most of the damage is from the fire and smoke; firefighters also had to cut out portions of the roof to aid ventilation. Skippack, Schwenksville, Trappe, Lower Frederick and Perkiomen fire companies worked at the scene. EMS and Harleysville Fire Police also responded.

Police Chief Discusses Details of Lower Frederick Shooting, Standoff

Defendant Stephen Jacobs is facing multiple charges – including criminal attempted murder – in connection with incident.

Lower Frederick resident Stephen Jacobs is in Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 bail following his arrest in connection with a shooting and standoff incident at his Fulmer Road residence Wednesday night. According to Lower Frederick Police Chief Paul Maxey, Jacobs is charged with two counts of criminal attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, two counts of terroristic threats, three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of possession of an instrument of crime. Jacobs was arraigned Thursday at District Justice Maurice Saylor’s office in Gilbertsville.
