Thief is Targeting Unlocked Cars, Collegeville PD Says

Hundreds of vehicles were affected overnight on Sunday in Upper Providence, Collegeville and Trappe, according to police.

  Collegeville Police Chief Bart Bucher cautioned residents to lock their car doors, citing a recent report of vehicle break-ins in Upper Providence, Collegeville and Trappe overnight on Feb.3 According to Bucher, someone hit “hundreds of houses, one after another, checking cars,” around the area of Morgan Lane and Hopwood Road in Upper Providence Township, and the person also checked some vehicles along Richard Way and Lloyd Ave. in Collegeville Borough. Bucher said that police were able to track footprints through the snow to find out which houses were targeted. Minor Injuries in Collegeville Bike-Auto Collision

A Lower Providence cyclist reportedly slid underneath a vehicle driven by a Harleysville man.

A Lower Providence cyclist suffered minor injuries Thursday afternoon after he collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Route 29 and Main St. in Collegeville. The 19-year-old cyclist was riding across the crosswalk of Route 29 when he reportedly struck the side of a 1997 Toyota driven by a 61-year-old Harleysville man, which was headed eastbound on Main Street and making a left turn onto Route 29. Witnesses told Collegeville police the cyclist slid underneath the vehicle, then pulled himself out and spoke with the driver. He complained of pain in his right elbow - he was treated and released from Phoenixville Hospital. Police said that due to a language barrier, the driver believed the cyclist to be "not seriously injured" and left …

Thank you Onyx. I meant to comment on this the other day. It is not always the drivers fault, there is a responsibility of cyclists and pedestrians also. The law can be googled and read. It specifically says that you are not to walk out in front of a car that can not stop in time to cause a collision, if you are IN a crosswalk a pedestrian has the right of way and at intersections, the auto must …   more ›

Police: Medical Emergency Leads to Crash

Car hits Collegeville Borough Hall

An Allentown man’s car hit the front of Collegeville Borough Hall after he suffered a medical emergency while driving west in the 400 block of Main Street, Monday evening, March 12, according to a Pennsylvania State Police report. Michael Higgins, 40, lost control of the vehicle – a 2005 Ford Taurus – which then traveled in a “U-turn fashion, striking the concrete curb and sidewalk along East Fifth Avenue and Main Street,” the police report states. The car entered the municipal building’s parking lot, police said, “(impacting) a traffic sign and the right corner and center of the building, where it came to a final rest,” according to the report.
