Post-Prom Open House This Saturday

Volunteers still needed for event

Perkiomen Valley School District released the following information: The Perkiomen Valley School District community is invited to see how Perkiomen Valley High School will be transformed into the city of Las Vegas during a community walk-through of the Post-Prom Party on Saturday, May 19, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The walk-through is the perfect opportunity for community members – whether they have high school students or not – to see what the Post-Prom Party is all about and how it benefits the entire community. The event is designed to provide a safe, fun alternative for students who want to continue celebrating after the prom has ended. The post-prom event is open to all juniors and seniors, regardless of whether or not they attend the prom, …

Humble Pie: Teachers, Students Take Part in Fundraiser

It's Pie a Teacher Day at Perkiomen Valley High School

Perkiomen Valley High School teachers and administrators stepped up to the pie plate Thursday afternoon, May 10, for the Pie a Teacher fundraiser. The school's Key Club is raising money to participate in the Relay for Life at Pottsgrove High School next month. So far, the club has raised nearly $400 for the Relay, with more than $50 coming from Pie a Teacher Day. While the adults were cooperative, often managing a smile, some of the students were downright gleeful as they heaved whipped-cream-and-chocolate-sauce mountains toward the authority figures. "If this (event) was every day, I'd love coming to school," said ninth grader Dreya Montgomery, who speculated she paid about $20 to participate in the "pie-ing." "Best money I ever spent," …

Perkiomen Valley School District Communications Director Jessica Lester submitted the following information: Skippack Elementary School teacher Michele Beddis was named the grand-prize winner at the elementary level of the “Voices of Inspiration for Teaching Excellence,” an award ceremony that was held May 9 and sponsored by the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit and Freedom Credit Union. Twenty-three finalists – one from each Montgomery County public school districts, one from the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit and one from a Montgomery County non-public school – were honored at the ceremony. Annual event wraps up National Poetry Month

Perkiomen Valley School District submitted the following information: Middle School East held the annual Poetry Café -- a special and long-anticipated event Thursday night, April 26, marking the culmination of the schools celebration of National Poetry Month. The theme for this year's Poetry Cafe was "The Poetry of Small Things." Attendees were encouraged to bring a small item along, which would be their inspiration for the writing activities of the evening. This year's Poetry Cafe was especially original because the design plan for the evening was created by the students. Maryann Boyd submitted the following information: Perkiomen Valley Football announces players chosen for the PAC-10 Senior Bowl.     The PAC-10 Football Coaches Association hosts a historic first meeting of the 2012 Senior Players from the Pioneer Athletic Conference. Senior players from each of the PAC-10 high schools – Boyertown, Methacton, Owen J. Roberts, Perkiomen Valley, Phoenixville, Pope John Paul II, Pottsgrove, Pottstown, Spring-Ford and Upper Perkiomen – will participate as a member of one of two teams – Freedom or Liberty, which are the two divisions of the PAC-10. Little Hands Do Big Work for Earth Day

Children's Schoolhouse of Collegeville Pre-K students weren't afraid to get their hands dirty for planting "mission"

The Pre-K class from The Children's Schoolhouse of Collegeville planted marigolds  around two trees on the front lawn of Trinity United Church of Christ, Friday, April 20, for Earth Day. The children raised their hands and took turns to plant flowers. The both students and teachers seemed to enjoy being outdoors in the glorious weather, and took a moment to sing "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands."

By Hillary Anderson Before the blustery weather settled in the Collegeville area on Saturday, the sunny blue skies reigned over Ursinus College as the campus and community gathered to celebrate the inauguration of the institution’s 15th president, Dr. Bobby Fong. While Saturday’s ceremony was more than noteworthy, Ursinus College did not stop with dancing dragons and a full luncheon for a Saturday afternoon. The week preceding the inauguration began with the Student Activities Office-sponsored Community Festival on Saturday and the student art fair, sponsored by Ursinus’s To Write Love on Her Arms, and the Berman Art Museum Community Partnership Parade art workshop on Sunday. Dodgeball Tournament raises $12K for PVSD Education Foundation

More than 900 school and community members teamed up for fundraising event

The following was submitted by Jessica Lester: It was student versus student, teacher versus teacher, firefighter versus firefighter and district office employees versus administrators as over 900 Perkiomen Valley School District students, employees and community members squared off in the Third Annual Dodgeball Tournament held at Perkiomen Valley High School on March 30. The event raised $12,000 for the Perkiomen Valley School District Education Foundation, an independent, non-profit organization that enhances and enriches educational opportunities for PV students through grants and scholarships to teachers. PV Blood Drive a Success

Skippack Elementary Home and School President thanks donors

Skippack Elementary Home and School President Pam Kirkman provided the following information about this past Monday's (March 12) blood drive. Last year was the first-ever drive organized for donors from the Skippack Elementary School community. This year, Kirkman stated the drive was open to the entire Perkiomen Valley School district, and had to had "turn away some donors because we could not accommodate them. "We had 42 donors sign in and 34 donations made!" • "We are extremely proud that we have made this an annual event. It feels great to live in such a caring community.
