Joan M. Alexander, age 59, of Royersford, PA died Sunday, March 24, 2013 in her home. Born in Pottstown, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Josephine (Mazur) Alexander. Joan was a graduate of the Spring-Ford High School. She worked as a dental assistant for several years. She also worked as a clerk for several District Justices in the area. She enjoyed live music and attending jewelry making classes. Joan had a great sense of humor she loved to use with all of her nieces and nephews. She was also a animal lover. In honor of the 10th anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq, Perkiomen Valley Patch honors local heroes.
The Iraq War began ten years ago this week, on March 19, 2003. According to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count, 4,802 Americans and allies have died in the war, including many from Pennsylvania. CNN has created a dynamic interactive map of all casualties in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Among them are three area men, including men from Collegeville, Green Lane and Royersford.

Chapter 25 of the Disabled American Veterans and the Royersford Applebee’s welcomed Veterans for a complimentary breakfast on Saturday, August 11. The DAV is an organization committed to helping disabled veterans and their families to build better lives, receive benefits, and to give them a voice on Capitol Hill. The breakfast was not only a “thank you” to local veterans, but also an opportunity for them to learn how the DAV might help them file a VA claim or other benefits. “I just want to thank you all for being here, for serving our country, and for doing what you do everyday,” stated a member of the DAV. Dorothy E. (Rutter) Asbert, age 94, wife of the late Edward Asbert, of Collegeville, PA, died early Monday morning, July 30, 2012 in the Sanatoga Center, Pottstown, PA. Born in Conshohocken, PA, she was a daughter of the late George and Frances (McCann) Rutter. She worked at the Philco Ford in Spring City and the CPI plant in Valley Forge for many years. Mrs. Asbert enjoyed traveling with her husband for many years. Mrs. Asbert is survived by three children: Edward G., husband of Shirley Asbert, of Millsboro, DE; Dennis L., husband of Karen Asbert, of Royersford, PA; Linda J., wife of Richard Gentry, of Sicklerville, NJ; six grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Not clear yet if it was an accidental fall or attempted suicide
Some Perkiomen Valley residents may have heard the sounds of sirens or a helicopter this early this evening. Emergency crews were responding to a call in Royersford. An unidentified adult male was reported to have fallen or jumped from a building at Fourth and Main streets in Royersford, according to emergency dispatch calls. Emergency crews thus far have delcined to comment. The man was reportedly on a second-story porch in the apartment building at that intersection in Royersford. It is unclear how the man fell. The victim was found bleeding from the face on the pavement. His breathing was short and shallow, but he was still alive, according to eyewitness reports. Charged with aggravated assault and other offenses in Royersford
A Schwenksville man is facing charges of aggravated assault, DUI and other offenses after allegedly attacking police following an alleged hit-and-run in Royersford during the early morning hours of Friday, June 15. Police said they found Alex Turner, 24, sleeping at Church Avenue and North Sixth Avenue in a vehicle that was believed to have been involved in an earlier hit-and-run on North Fifth Avenue in Royersford Borough. Police said they initially had some difficulty rousing Turner, who then allegedly made multiple attempts to pull away from police and re-enter his vehicle.
