With spring just around the corner, it's hard to believe fall isn't far behind it.
It's barely spring. The pitchers and catchers are just reporting to local youth baseball teams. But, for the Perkiomen Valley Vikings, some eyes are already on the signs of fall, including football and cheerleading. Sign-ups are well underway for the Vikings' 2013 squads. Flag players can register for just $45 or free with a regisetred tackle player. Tackle players can still get 2012 prices and sign-up for just $195, with a $10 discount for those that sign up a second tackler. Cheer squads are also assembling. Those in Kindergarten through seventh grade can enroll for the coming season. Each class is divided by grade, with two in each division. Cheer is $130 per child for the season. Both football and cheer teams for the Vikings are "grade…

The 8th Annual Sights and Sounds Marching Band competition was held at the CB South football field at Folly and Pickertown Roads in Warrington. The event was open to the public. “The students spend a good part of their summer and four or five days a week outside school hours rehearsing for a production of this extent,” said CB South Band Director Michael Robinson. “Their hard work pays off with the level of musicality and performance. The program [was] really worth seeing; on Oct. 13 the community [could have] also enjoy[ed] numerous other high school …

Your child may be in the spotlight at the Royersford Applebee's.
Families or individuals in the community that frequent the Applebee's restaurant on Buckwalter Road in Royersford may have seen some local stars gracing the walls. Athletes from Spring-Ford High School, Perkiomen Valley High School and Pope John Paul II High School are pictured on the special "local walls" that Applebee's designated. General Manager of the Royersford branch Todd Naiko said these walls have been dedicated for almost two years now. "It's part of our brand and it's been part of our brand for a really long time," he said. "We switched over the core of the restaurant two years this summer. When we redid the wallpaper and stained glass and bar top and things like that, we also wanted to create something local. So we did the …

Perkiomen Valley battled more than the Falcons in a Pac-10 pink event
As the Vikings trotted onto the turf at Thomas J Keenan Stadium on Friday night, a foe far more imposing than the Pottsgrove Falcons was in the Perkiomen Valley community's sights. The event hosted an effort to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Coach Reed's squad, the PV Football club and the more than 500 people, in attendance had targeted in their collective sights, In a pre-game ceremony, cancer survivors and their families were welcomed to the track to be honored as a moment of silence was shared by all for those who have been lost to the dreaded disease. The Perkiomen Valley Football club, whose efforts have been spearheaded by Tia Kilkenny, Mary Anne Boyd and James Clanagan just to name a few, along with Athletic …

Junior Audrey Bonavito shined brightly as Perk Valley takes one more step in growth process
On a frigid October night two years ago, Owen J. Roberts, en route to winning the Pac-10 championship, ended Perkiomen Valley’s season with a lopsided win as they celebrated their senior night at the expense of the Vikings. It was coach Erik Enters's first season at the helm. Make no mistake, Julie Carfagno, Carli Conners and their fellow Class of 2012 teammates made a mental note. On Wednesday Perkiomen Valley, fueled by an amazing performance by net minder Audrey Bonavito, was seven minutes away from returning the favor, as they held a 1-0 lead on a goal by Sarah Roos, as they battled the Wildcats for the league championship. Unfortunately lady luck was wearing the red and white of Owen J. Roberts. A 6-0 penalty corner edge in the second…

Erik Enters submitted the following information: Perk Valley won Tuesday night’s senior game 1-0. PV had 15 shots on goal and had 21 corners. Methacton goalie, Alyssa Rothman had 12 saves and the Methacton Defense made two defensive saves on the goal-line. Audree Bonavita played very well for the Vikings turning away seven shots – the final diving save with 20 seconds left in the game to preserve her eighth shutout of the season. Perk Valley scored its’ goal in the first half at the 8:09 mark. It was scored by Chandler Giese off a corner play with a nice feed coming from Annie Himsworth. The second half featured a physical Methacton team that pressed hard to turn the momentum around. PV did not back down and weathered the storm as well …

The Fourth time was no charm as the Vikings fell short in 14-9 loss to Phantoms
Following three consecutive come-from-behind wins by the Vikings, it appeared Perkiomen Valley had the Phantoms right where they wanted them. Scoring a touchdown just as the fourth quarter got under way, the Vikings narrowed the Phantoms' lead to 14-9. What the Vikings did not anticipate was the Phantoms' offensive line taking over the trenches. Alec McQuiston and company embarked on a 12-play, 70-yard drive that consumed most of the final quarter, and preserved a 14-9 Phoenixville win. The Phantoms are 3-0. Even though the drive may not have resulted in points, as Ian Harrigan’s 27-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left with 2:01 left in regulation, it succeeded in keeping the Vikings offense, which has been lethal in the second half …

Erik Enters provided the following information: Perk Valley lost Friday’s contest 2-1 five minutes into overtime. Perk Valley maintained constant pressure throughout the first half but could not convert on 5 corner plays. There were several scoring chances as the ball just missed wide of the net on shots by Annie Himsworth, Sarah Roos, and Chandler Geise. PV thought they had a goal or a stroke on a play along the goal line but were only awarded a short corner instead. The second half featured a change of momentum early on as Henderson came out and showed why they are an undefeated team. For the first 10 minutes PV had difficulty clearing their own defensive half and Henderson was finally able to connect after a bunch of quality chances…
