Local Farm Averts Sheriff's Sale
The Northern Star Farm in Trappe had been scheduled to hit the auction block on Wednesday.
A landmark local farm will, for now, remain in the hands of the family that has operated it since the Coolidge administration. Owner Matthew Wismer said Monday night that he had "taken steps" to avert the sale of the Northern Star Farm in Trappe, which has been operated by the family since 1927. The farm, which has operated as a dairy farm since it was owned by Wismer's grandfather, had previously been slated for a sheriff's sale on Wednesday. The banks that hold the mortgage on the farm had moved to foreclose in December 2011, according to county records.
