Three Local Residents Charged with DUI

On Dec. 17, three men were charged with driving under the influence and various other offenses, according to court records.

  Three men were charged with DUI and related offenses on Dec. 17, stemming from separate incidents throughout the fall in which they allegedly had “high” or “highest” blood alcohol rates, according to court records. Kevin F. McCorry, of Souderton, was arrested by the Pennsylvania State Police in Perkiomen Township on Nov. 22 and was charged with DUI at a high rate of alcohol level, between .10 and .16. McCorry, 24, was also charged with driving an unregistered vehicle, disregarding a traffic lane and careless driving, according to court records. The Pennsylvania State Police arrested Jeffrey Weigand, of Collegeville, in Skippack Township on Dec. 10. On Dec. 17, Weigand, 44, was charged with DUI of the highest rate – meaning a blood …

Lower Salford Man ID'd as Driver Killed in Harleysville Crash

Christopher Detweiler, 42, of Morris Road, was flown to Hahnemann Hospital for treatment, but succumbed to injuries in the accident Friday afternoon

Update Monday, Dec. 3 Lower Salford Police have identified the driver killed in an accident in Harleysville Friday afternoon as Christopher Detweiler, 42, of the 100 block of Morris Road, Lower Salford. Earlier Story A Harleysville resident died as a result of a one-car crash on Quarry Road near  Stover Road Friday afternoon. According to Breaking News Network, one person was trapped in a vehicle. A driver was rescued from a vehicle, and flown by Mid-Atlantic MedEvac 3, according to BNN. According to The Reporter, the driver was flown to Hahnemann Hospital, but did not survive injuries sustained from the crash. The driver was north on the 500 block of Quarry Road around 4:30 p.m., when the vehicle crossed into the other lane and hit a tree…

Barnside Requests DEP Permit Reinstatement

The DEP is requesting public comment on the facility's permit to compost food, which was suspended after neighbors complained of insects, odors and noise.

  The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is requesting public comment on a request from Barnside Farm Composting, of Haldeman Road in Lower Salford Township, to reinstate a food composting permit, according to the DEP. At the September Perkiomen Township meeting, a resident alerted the township supervisors to Barnside's application, which has since moved to the next step of a DEP review. "It's a very sticky situation because there are four townships right there," said the Haldeman Road resident.   "The people affected by it are in this township, and that is why I wanted to make you aware." Those of us who live close to Barnside endured the summer of 2010 swatting flies and smelling rotting garbage 24/7. They have not begun to accept food waste again but there are unusual odors in our neighborhood again in our neighborhood from their composting operation.
