The Penndale Middle Schooler — who celebrated his 13th birthday on Friday — was having a spastic conversation with his friends inside a room on the grounds of Corpus Christi Church before being asked how he felt to be surrounded by people donating to save the lives of others. Family and friends of a Lansdale youth and a Penndale seventh-grader who is battling acute myeloid leukemia have organized a blood and platelet drive at Corpus Christi Church on Saturday, in conjunction with the American Red Cross and the National Marrow Donor Program. Plugged as "Matthew Knoebel's Birthday Blood and Platelet Drive Bash," the public event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the church at 900 Sumneytown Pike in Upper Gwynedd.
