Castor-Brown: Use Valley Forge Casino Funds for Route 422

Would require approval in state legislature

The Brown-Castor campaign for Montgomery County Commissioner has its eyes on the coming Valley Forge Casino Resort. Specifically, on the revenue it's expected to generate. Right now, that money is slated to go to the state, not Montgomery County. "If we have to deal with the hassle of having a casino, it is just not right that we don't get with any of the revenue," Castor said earlier this week, according to a PhillyBurbs.com report. The campaign on Friday called on the state legislature to pass a law that would let the county collect a "host fee" that it says could be used to help fund improvements on U.S. Route 422. The casino will be situated alongside the highway, which runs roughly parallel to the Schuylkill River through central and …

The only thing laughable is the support of Joshua Shapiro for Tolls on rte 422. If that would ever happen, we will be faced with a huge toll increase like the one New York City just received. Not the way to Go Joshua. The Castor/Brown Ticket is the winning solution to fix rte 422!   more ›

Castor and Brown Announce Fiscal Platform

Republican candidates Bruce Castor and Jenny Brown announced their campaign agenda today. Their platform focuses on financial management reform.

Republican candidates for Montgomery County Commissioner Bruce Castor and Jenny Brown announced their campaign agenda today in a press conference at the Montgomery County Courthouse. According to the pair, their platform for the coming election will focus on financial management reform. If elected, Castor and Brown hope to turn the county’s finances around. “We are in deep financial trouble," said Castor. "[We're] seeing the highest debt Montgomery County has ever seen and need to implement fiscal policies that will insure stability of the county.” Castor said that “county officials are not looking at the larger context and instead spending money in the heat of the moment, causing us to go further into debt.” Castor continued to reiterate …

County Commissioners Race Heats Up

A confident group of Republican hopefuls held a Thursday morning press conference in support of the Brown-Castor ticket.

With the Montgomery County Republican ticket standing behind them, Jenny Brown and Bruce L. Castor Jr. held their first press conference, which aimed to solidify their stance and unify the party for the upcoming 2011 election in November. Standing inside the Swede Street entrance of the Montgomery County Courthouse, Montgomery County Republican Committee Chairman Bob Kerns began the press conference with a brief statement, introducing Brown and Castor and setting a tone for what seems likely to be a highly contested race against the Democratic ticket of Josh Shapiro and Leslie Richards. "We have two candidates as commissioners who I believe are the epitome of what is good about Montgomery County," said Kerns. "We are ready to go. We are …

Ruthiness

Dear Marc Lombardi - yes there are problems in both political parties - but the GOP censured Jim Matthews - the Dems simply chose not to put Hoeffel on the ticket. Big difference. I fault mostly Jim Matthews for what happened - he is a sellout. Voters thought they elected a conservative yet he threw his hat in with Hoeffel - that is a betrayal of voters. I guess the apple doesn't fall from the …   more ›

Primary Election to Take Place May 17

The campaign signs are popping up along area roads. Registered voters in Perkiomen Valley will have a chance to cast their ballots soon.

Essayist George Jean Nathan once wrote, “Bad officials are elected by good citizens who do not vote.” Registered voters in Perkiomen Valley have much to think about before heading to the polls Tuesday, May 17. While it is important to vote, it is just as important to be an informed voter. There are many state, county and local contests to be decided during this primary election. There are also five Perkiomen Valley School Board seats to be determined. Fortunately, PV Patch is here to help you become an informed voter. We've done a little homework to help you before you head into the booth and press the Vote button. Another great online resource is Smart Voter, which is sponsored by The League of Women Voters. Enter your address, and …
