Skippack regular Dr. Ben's Backbone Blues Band will be on hand for the concert, scheduled for Feb. 17 in Fairview Village.
Local musicians, including some Skippack regulars, are coming together to raise money this weekend for hurricane relief through the same non-profit that ran the 12-12-12 Concert at Madison Square Garden. The event will be held on Feb. 17 at 3:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church on Valley Forge Road in Fairview Village, and will raise funds for the Robin Hood Relief Fund, responsible for the 12-12-12 Concert, and Lutheran World Relief. Dr. Ben’s Backbone Blues Band, a staple on the Skippack music scene, will perform as a trio, and the concert will feature MC Frank Raffa of Sound Sensation DJs, Gloria Galante and the West Chester Harp Ensemble, vocalist Adrienne Reed, the Lauren Lark Jazz Band, and more. Phil Schmidt and his wife Robin combined a love of southern cooking with the entrepreneurial spirit.
As a child, growing up in Lower Providence, Phil Schmidt Jr. never thought anyone would call him “Phamous Phil.” But, he did dream of owning his own restaurant one day. “Ever since I was a kid, I just loved to cook,” Schmidt said. “I always wanted to have a restaurant, but I didn’t know what kind.” Schmidt and his wife Robin recently spoke with Patch in their Collegeville-based restaurant, Phamous Phil’s BBQ and Grille, where they shared the story of how Lower Providence Township’s only southern-style barbecue restaurant came to be. The religious institution in Montgomery Township is seeking volunteers to help deliver food and identify those in need
Those still living without electricity in the wake of Hurricane Sandy can get some free hot meals courtesy of Keystone Fellowship of Montgomery Township and Skippack Township. The religious institution at 427 Stump Road is ready to serve 20,000 hot meals to people in the Greater Philadelphia area as part of its Hurricane Sandy Relief. Keystone has been given more than 16,000 pounds of pre-cooked chicken and a large commercial cooker to aid those in need and those without power. It is also acquiring bread and water to giveaway as well. Keystone Fellowship's Montgomeryville location will be the regional distribution center in the relief effort today, Thursday and Friday from Noon to 6 p.m. The effort is in need of volunteers to drive, …
