The final score of the 2011 Carpenter Cup was Philadelphia Catholic League 9, Chester County 7.
With a chance to play on the hallowed grounds of Citizens Bank Park hanging in the balance, the Philadelphia Catholic League All Stars outlasted a Chester Squad, which saw an 8-2 lead evaporate in the late innings to claim a 9-8 victory in 11 innings, to advance to the Carpenter Cup semi final against Burlington County. The Catholic League All Stars got on the board first as center fielder Mike McLaughlin (Father Judge) drilled a single between short and third to score the St. Joseph prep duo of Kyle Gillen and Ray Toto, who had singled and drew a walkoff of starter Kenny Wolf (Perkiomen Valley), who got the save in Chester County’s opening round win, to take a 2-0 lead. Chester County got it going offensively in the top half of the third …

The Carpenter Cup high school baseball showcase took place at Ashburn Field in Philadelphia.
It’s the dream of any kid who has ever tossed a ball around in the backyard—to one day run onto the field of a major league ball park and play a game in front of screaming fans. Thanks to a come from behind 9-7 win on Ashburn Field in the first round of the Carpenter Cup, the select group of all-stars from Chester County will get do exactly that. On Saturday, they will run out of the tunnel at Coca Cola Park (home of the Phillies AAA affiliate the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs), with the winner punching a ticket the semi-finals to be held Monday at Citizens Bank Park. In the fall of 1985, a committee of high school baseball coaches from the tri-state area met with representatives from the Philadelphia Phillies to discuss and organize the …

The final score of the PIAA District One Championship game—Upper Moreland 9, Pope John Paul II 2.
As cliché as it might be to state “history would be made” as the PIAA District One Class AAA Championship game got under way, truer words could not be written. Pope John Paul II High School has been riding the wave of the “new school spirit” since its inception in September. The school has melded two student bodies into one cohesive force to be reckoned with, but hasn't yet won the District I title. Upper Moreland, despite its long history and many trophies in its showcase, has yet to win a district title in baseball. Getting the call for the Golden Panthers was senior Jeff Evans, who displayed a calming confidence with him as he took the hill in the biggest game of PJP2’s brief history. “I am relaxed and ready to go,” said Evans prior to …

The final score was PJP2 17, Phantoms 4.
It wasn’t surprising that the Golden Panthers took the field with a bit of a chip on their collective shoulders. Despite winning five of their last six games—including a last at-bat comeback win at AAAA Perkiomen Valley on Wednesday night—the Pope John Paul II squad was informed shortly before it boarded the buses to Phoenixville that due to a “less than special” tie-breaking system, they had been left out of the mix for the Pac-10 final four. This would stand regardless of the outcome of Thursday’s tilt with the Phantoms. “It really pissed us off,” said third basemen Paul Mills. “After last night, all any of us talked about all day at school was what we had to do today and winning the Pac-10 title. It’s a weird situation because if …

The final score was Perkiomen Valley 10, Pottsgrove 2.
In a season that has been full of “What ifs?” and “What might have beens” for manager Bill Feight and the Vikings, Tuesday night’s senior celebration was a microcosm of the entire season. At times this season, the Vikings have exhibited the talent and tenacity that had pre-season predictions projecting Perkiomen Valley in the thick of the hunt for the Pioneer Athletic Conference title. Then, there has been lapses that have cost the Vikings dearly, with examples such as the four-run lead that vanished against the Wildcats in the sixth inning, or the escape of the Bears when PV led until the final at bat. “We have definitely been frustrated this year,” said senior Andrew Kenney, who is Bloomsburg-bound next year. “We felt coming in that we …
