Chief William Albany of the Limerick Police Department recognized Collegeville resident Ken Leflar at Tuesday night's Board of Supervisor's meeting, presenting him with a Citizen's Commendation. Leflar called the police in February 2012 to report two suspicious men buying items with multiple credit cards at the Sunoco convenience store on Ridge Pike. Local teen Stanley Antosh took on project on his path to become an Eagle Scout. Donation boxes are in PV-area businesses.
One of the primary purposes of an Eagle Scout project is to provide community service and fulfill the part of the Boy Scout oath: “to help people at all times.” Eagle Scout candidate Stanley Antosh, 17, of Royersford, has organized a food drive for the Jerusalem Community Food Pantry, because he wanted his Eagle Scout project to have the maximum community impact. “I started it because I wanted to do something that would help a lot of people,” Antosh said. “I helped out at a food bank in the past, and saw there was a lack of food for people.” The planning for Antosh’s community food drive began in April. The Eagle Scout project guidelines require that all projects benefit a religious institution, school or community, and must present an …

Inspired by her cousin, Meaghan Burke aims to raise money and awareness
It's been a work of heart this past month as Evergreen Elementary student and Perkiomen Township resident Meaghan Burke, 10, organized a fundraiser for the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania. Meaghan's cousin and best friend Grace, 13, has epilepsy, and while the Burke family has participated in events to raise money for the cause, last month during the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Meaghan had the idea to spearhead her own effort. She decided to have a tea event because it was "a fun idea," and she found a willing host in the Lederach Tea Room. With the tea's three sponsors -- Budget Maintenance, Dynamic Landscaping and L2 Partridge Architecture -- Meaghan had already raised $1,200, and then spots for the event sold out …
