The Board of Supervisors held its monthly meeting Wednesday, May 9
The Skippack Board of Supervisors meeting Wednesday night kicked off with a moment of silence for Mary Gehman, who recently died. Mary was a familiar face at the monthly meetings, and unafraid to challenge or question the supervisors. "She gave Mark (Marino, former supervisors chair) a run for his money," Supervisors Chair Mary Beth La Belle. "Although she is on the same side (as us), I was looking forward to bantering with her." In other business: • The first draft of the township's new comprehensive plan will be presented at the Planning Commission meeting, May 21, at 7:30 p.m., said township Planner Joseph Zadlo. He said he hopes to see a good-sized turnout in order to garner lots of feedback. Skippack's comprehensive plan was last …

Residents voiced concerns about development work that needs to be finished.
The Skippack Board of Supervisors decided to refuse Blooming Glen’s request to postpone some Phase II public improvements to Biltmore Estates; no vote was needed during the April 11 meeting at the township building. According to township Engineer Timothy Woodrow, the multi-million-dollar Phase II bond was posted personally (by Blooming Glen) in order to cover public improvements. However, houses in the development have not sold quickly enough to recoup expenses. The improvements include estate sign masonry and property fences. Before announcing a decision, Supervisors Chair Mary Beth La Belle asked her fellow board members, “What do you think?” “Build it!” chorused several residents in attendance. During the meeting, the request came …

Contracts awarded for trailhead kiosk project, next year's snow removal
Wednesday's Collegeville Borough Council meeting was fairly brief, but several projects came up during the regular reports and business discussions during the meeting. Councilman Rowan Keenan, while reporting for the Collegeville/Trappe Municipal Authority and the Public Works Department, said that the departments had extensively discussed new water meters for the borough. The new meters will be able to be read from the street, which will drastically reduce the time it takes for an employee to complete the job. When questioned by Council President Terrie Stagliano whether "all the homes in the borough would be affected," Keenan said yes, all the borough's water meters would be replaced. "Who pays for the new meters?" asked Stagliano. "CTMA…

Trappe Borough Hall is getting a new security system, to include a steel door, a buzzer system and a three foot by three foot service window. Approval for the system was granted at the April 3 Trappe Borough Council meeting. A monitoring system will further enhance security with a fire and entry alarm. Fire Chief Brian Long suggested a "panic" button" be added as well. There will be an installation fee for the monitoring system, as well as a monthly cost. Visitors to the building will also notice other improvements with repair work on rails and decking behind the Trappe Borough building now complete. Work will soon begin on the sidewalk repairs along Fifth Avenue and walkways around Borough Hall leading to the playground area in the rear. …

Marshall Stomel returns to Trappe Borough council seat and Paul Edwards is appointed to vice president at the March Borough Council meeting.
Matt Watson's resignation from Trappe Borough Council last month left several vacancies. One council seat, the office of vice president, and an appointment for Public Works all needed to be filled at the March 6 Trappe Borough meeting. The open council position was advertised and applications were accepted until Feb. 24. Marshall Stomel was the only applicant. Stomel served on the Borough Council from May to December 2011. In 1937 Lower Frederick Township Fire Company bought its first fire truck for about what it would cost you to buy an iPad, and the rest, as they say, is history. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the township’s fire company and to celebrate, the fire department invited some of its older volunteers to its annual banquet to join in the festivities. A total of 105 current and former Lower Frederick volunteer firefighters and their family members celebrated the anniversary last month, at the township’s firehouse and among them was current fire Chief Scott Angstadt. Angstadt has been a resident of Lower Frederick for 17 years and fire chief for seven years, and said he enjoyed being around former chiefs and volunteers. He’s pretty sure …
