Upper Perkiomen Teacher Frank Mercon, charged with failure to report a student’s rape, will have a pretrial conference within the next six weeks.
Frank R. Mercon, the Upper Perkiomen High School teacher charged with failure to report the sexual assault of a student, has waived his formal arraignment and will participate in a pretrial conference in four to six weeks. Mercon’s attorney, Mark Neff, entered an appearance for his client to waive the formal arraignment before a pretrial conference, according to Montgomery County court administration. A formal arraignment is provided for defendants to learn more on the court process, their rights, and to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty. Mercon has been charged with two third degree misdemeanors of failure to report suspected child abuse and enumeration of persons to report, according to court documents. The Upper Perkiomen School …

Supporters created a "We Love Mercon" page on Facebook, are making "Mercon Changed My Life" t-shirts, organizing support for his preliminary hearing later this month.
Many Upper Perkiomen High School students and community members are rallying behind health teacher and baseball coach Frank R. Mercon, of Upper Hanover, who was charged with failure to report child abuse after a student allegedly reported a sexual assault to him. Over 1,300 people have "liked" a "We Love Mr. Mercon" (WLM) Facebook page to post photos and stories of Mercon, and send him well wishes after his arraignment yesterday. "We support him because of all the things he has done right," one WLM fan said. "Not turn our backs for the one thing he did wrong. We are all behind you Mercon." High school health teacher and varsity baseball coach Frank R. Mercon, of Upper Frederick, allegedly failed to report the suspected sexual assault of one of his students.
Upper Perkiomen High School Health Teacher and Varsity Baseball Coach Frank R. Mercon, of Upper Frederick, was arraigned this morning after allegedly failing to report the sexual assault of a minor student to authorities, according to a press release from District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman. A Montgomery County Detectives' investigation revealed that a minor victim reported a 2009 sexual assault to Mercon, who allegedly told the victim that nothing could be done because so much time had passed since the assault and that he didn't have to tell anyone about the incident, according Ferman. I understand that Mr. Mercon technically broke the law, but I'm not sure the law makes sense in this situation. Who would benefit from him reporting this? The girl obviously didn't want this to be public, or she wouldn't have only told her teacher. There is no evidence to charge the rapist, so the only result of Mercon reporting this would be everyone knowing that this girl was raped. And it's …   more ›
