Officials Hold Public Hearing on Contaminated Well Water
Several New Hanover wells are contaminated; officials plan to provide public water to affected homes.
State officials are holding a hearing tonight regarding contaminated well water along Layfield Road in New Hanover on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at Boyertown Junior High East, according to The Mercury. Officials plan to provide public water to homes, clustered around a former fuel company. The contamination was identified when the Montgomery County Health Department found high levels of contaminants in July of 2011 at a home near the former Swann Oil Company, also known as Good Oil Company. After a more extensive sampling, nine wells near the 30 block of Layfield Road were found to have contaminated water.
