Actor Tony Danza visited Ursinus College to reflect on his year teaching in Philadelphia, the resulting book, and to share own ideas for education reform.
When you've starred in sitcoms, talk shows, stage and film, the obvious next career step is…teaching high school in Philadelphia? For "Who's the Boss?" star Tony Danza, it was. Danza spent 2009 teaching 10th grade at Northeast High School in Philadelphia, and has written a book about it - "I'd Like to Apologize To Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High." Danza was brought to Ursinus College by the Towne Book Center in Collegeville to meet with fans and sign books. The "Who's the Boss?" actor will promote his new book on Sept. 15, which chronicles his year teaching 10th grade at Northeast High School in Philadelphia.
Actor Tony Danza will visit the Bomberger Auditorium at Ursinus College on Sept. 15 to promote his new book, "I Would Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High." The signing, held by Towne Book Center in Collegeville, will begin at 6:30 and costs $30 - admission price includes an autographed copy of the book. Danza, of "Who's the Boss?" and "Taxi" fame, spent 2009 teaching 10th grade at Northeast High School in Philadelphia - the school district's largest school. The resulting book highlights his trials and tribulations as at teacher, and also features many portraits of both students and teachers. Governor Rendell will new promote his first book at the Providence Town Center from noon- 2 pm this Saturday
Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell will hold a book signing event on Aug. 25 at the Towne Book Center, formerly the Trappe Book Center, to promote his book "A Nation of Wusses: How America's Leaders Lost the Guts to Make Us Great." Rendell, who has stopped in the area previously to promote the book, will visit the book store, located in the Providence Town Center, from noon to 2 pm to meet with fans and sign books. Bibliophiles turned out for the special guests as the former Trappe Book Center officially celebrated its new home.
Although the doors to the Towne Book Center have been open to the public since Feb. 18, its official grand opening events, including a ribbon cutting, kicked off around 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 29. Joined by owner P.K. Swindani and family as well as Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce's Renee Blomstrom and Bruce Zanar, authors Jerry and Eileen Spinelli cut the red ribbon at the store's entrance. The husband-and-wife team then took their seats at a table inside the store to sign books and greet fans. Hundreds of readers reserved spots in line to meet the authors.
Bestselling authors--the mother and daughter duo of Mary and Carol Higgins Clark--entered Wegmans' Timber Room to a host of cheers and applause from the crowd assembled for their book signing at the supermarket last Sunday afternoon. Nearly 300 fans signed up to snag a spot in line that snaked around the room, and about 40 "walk ins" were expected to add to that. The Higgins Clarks' respective releases "I'll Walk Alone" (Mary) and "Mobbed" (Carol) were the most frequently signed, but attendees did bring other titles for the authors' signatures. Although Wegmans stated the signing would go from noon to 2 p.m., the Higgins Clarks' pens were still flying across pages, and there were still people waiting in line, as the clock struck 2:30 p.m. …
