Sewer Authority Approves Middle Interceptor Location in LP

Nearly 20 residents attended the Lower Perkiomen Valley Regional Sewer Authority's meeting to voice their opposition to a plan they say would threaten local well water, wreak havoc on Hoy Park and cause permanent damage to the local ecology.

Lower Providence residents who turned out Thursday night to voice their opposition to the Lower Perkiomen Valley Regional Sewer Authority's (LPVRSA) plan to locate a section of a major sewer line near their homes in the vicinity of Hoy Park were deeply disappointed when the authority's board of directors voted to move forward with their plans the current location, known as Arcola 1C. The plan was approved by the board with four of the six members voting in favor. Lower Providence's Fred Walker and Trappe's Paul Edwards voted against the plan. Prior to the vote, many of the residents spoke and implored the board to heed their requests to relocate the proposed sewer line to the Upper Providence side of Perkiomen Creek. Several residents …

Act 537 Update Expected at Tonight's LPVRSA Meeting

The Lower Perkiomen Valley Regional Sewer Authority meets tonight at 6 p.m. and the middle interceptor issue is expected to take center stage once again.

The Lower Perkiomen Valley Regional Sewer Authority (LPVRSA) hosts their regularly scheduled meeting tonight at 6 p.m. at 101 Station Avenue in Oaks and quite a few area residents are expected to attend. At issue is the debate over LPVRSA's plans to locate a section of sewer line (known as the middle interceptor) on the Lower Providence side of Perkiomen Creek along Arcola Road.   Groups of residents from both the Lower Providence and Upper Providence sides of the creek disagree on the best location for the line, each maintaining that the other side is optimal. At the top if the agenda for the meeting is an update on the Act 537 Plan, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)-mandated study of the region's sewer needs. Learn more …

Study for Suggested Multi-Way Stop Sign in Perkiomen Township

Board of Supervisors met Tuesday, May 1

In response to a repeated request, the Perkiomen Township Board of Supervisors agreed to an engineering study to determine if the intersection of Bridge Street, Fox Heath Boulevard and Welsh Road warrants a multi-way stop sign. No official vote was needed during the Tuesday night, May 1, meeting. "I’m usually against multi-way stop signs, but that (intersection) is a little troublesome. I wouldn’t mind seeing if it meets warrants," said Supervisor Dean Becker. "I agree with Dean," said Supervisor Richard Kratz. "In the morning and afternoon with buses, it’s a very busy intersection." Supervisors Chair Gordon MacElhenney reminded everyone that there had been a traffic accident in that area. In other business: • The supervisors unanimously …

Skippack 'Snafu' Leads to Late December Budget Meeting

Advertising error forces board of to attend a "two-minute" meeting on December 29th

The Skippack Board of Supervisors announced on Wednesday that due to an advertising error, the board will again meet on the morning of December 29th to pass the 2012 budget. "Isn't it a little unusual to have a budget meeting at nine in the morning on December 29th?" asked Mary Gehman, one of the many Skippack residents who attended the meeting "Yes, it's highly unusual," said Mark Marino, chairman of the board.  "There was a snafu with advertising.  A mistake was made as far as dates and times so we have to get it done before the end of the year and that's what we have to do." Marino cautioned that there was no sinister motive at play, and the meeting itself would only last a few minutes. "It's not like we're trying to sneak in a meeting…

Skippack Board of Supervisors hear complaints about the project's timeliness during a Wednesday night meeting.

Concerned Residents:      Skippack residents voiced their growing concerns over the Biltmore properties at Wednesday night’s Board of Supervisors meeting.       The property on Old Forty Foot Road and Skippack Pike is a THP community that has been in the works for years now.      Skippack resident Roger Roberts said he and his neighbors have put their own time and money into maintaining the Biltmore area’s landscape because his property looks like a construction site.      “It looks like absolute hell,” Roberts said.      Township Engineer Tim Woodrow said he understands Roberts’ frustrations and said Blooming Glen, the contractor, had people working on the properties today after being gone for a month.      Woodrow said they did fix the …

A new comprehensive plan is also on the way for the township.

The Skippack Township Supervisors approved a contract between Comcast and the township that was negotiated by a law service. It was disclosed that the legal fees were approximately $3,500. Township Manager Ted Locker added, "The contract will allow them a better price and negotiating power." Skippack resident Gerald Brock asked, "What is the percentage of the bill that is passed to the community?" He noted his current Verizon statements include a monthly township fee.
