The Schwenksville Fire Company will hold its 20th Annual Flea Market and Chili Cook-Off on Monday beginning at 7 a.m. The flea market, held at the fire station at 300 Main Street in Schwenksville, will start at 7 a.m and run until 3 p.m. At noon, the cook-off will begin, which costs $10 to enter and $3 to taste. Other than first through third place, prize categories include peoples’ choice, under 18 and hottest chili, voted on by area fire chiefs.
Skippack resident Sandy Sellers Copley's memory will be honored for the third consecutive year through the memorial run that raises money toward childhood cancer research.
The Sandy Sellers Copley Memorial 5K will return for its third consecutive year, Saturday, June 15. The event will start at 9 a.m. at the Tiki Bar at Spring Mountain, located at 757 Spring Mount Road in Schwenksville. According to Sandy’s mother, Charlotte Sellers, the race has grown in popularity since its first year, and continues to commemorate the life of her daughter, Sandy Sellers Copley. Sandy lived and worked in the Skippack and Trappe areas for 18 years, before she lost her battle with cancer on June 25, 2010, at the age of 43. The 28th Keyser Miller Ford PV Chamber Annual Golf Outing is returning to the Spring Ford Country Club, Monday, June 3. The event will feature an 11 a.m. shotgun start, and golfers may participate in a Foursome with free hole sign ($600); twosome small business option ($300); and as a single golfer ($150). According to a recent Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce e-newsletter, the foursomes are filling up fast. Those not interested in golfing, but still whish to participate in the event, may choose the “Social” option ($35), which includes networking and dinner. Operation 'Weed Whacker' nets eight arrests, four firearms, over $700,000 in cash and 400 pounds of high-grade marijuana
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman has announced eight arrests in connection with Operation "Weed Whacker," which sought to bring down a multimillion-dollar marijuana trafficking ring. According to the press release, the DA's Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) began an investigation in September of 2012 into the trafficking of high-grade marijuana in Whitpain Township. Two months into the investigation, detectives learned that hundreds of pounds of marijuana were being distributed throughout southeastern Pennsylvania by two brothers, identified as Dennis Frederick, 40, of Delaware County, and Jeffrey Frederick, 32, of Philadelphia, the release states. Matthew Royer, who disappeared after leaving the University of Rhode Island en route to his Skippack home, is safe, police say.
The Pennsylvania State Police are reporting that Matthew Royer, who vanished on his way home to Skippack from the Univeristy of Rhode Island on Thursday night, has been found, unharmed. According to reports from 6ABC, he was found in North Carolina. Police are now considering the case to be closed, and say that it is a private, family matter. The Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy will host a 7 mile sojourn down the creek.
The Perkiomen Creek Conservancy will host a sojourn on Saturday, June 8th from 9am-3:30pm. The 7 mile ride will start at Red Fox Park in Schwenksville and will end at Hoy Park in Lower Providence. Kayaks and canoes will be available for rent, but they are not guaranteed. As you paddle down the creek you can learn about the history of the Perkiomen Creek and its surrounding areas along with looking at the health of the creek by doing a macro-biotic survey conducted by the conservancy. Both Schwenksville and Collegeville Boroughs passed proclamations naming June 8 "Perkiomen Watershed Conservency Sojourn Day," encouraging residents to participate. Collegeville Rotary Club is looking for nominees to fill Teacher of the Year Award
The Collegeville Rotary Club will be hosting their annual Civic Award Dinner in October 2013 to honor the teacher of the year from Perkiomen Valley or Methacton from the middle schools or high school.
