Update: High School Baseball Team Walks Off Field in Protest

Players upset the coach did not start all seniors during senior night

A YouTube video posted May 9 shows members of the Perkiomen Valley High School baseball team leaving the field to the cheers of some spectators. According to the video's description, the walk-off occurred because the "coach did not start all seniors" on Senior Night. Senior Night does not traditionally require all seniors to start a game in the PV School District. While the game against Pope John Paul II High School did resume that night, May 9, the players who walked off the field "declined to rejoin the team and did not play the final two games (of the season)," according to an e-mail from the Perkiomen Valley School District. "We are disappointed that the students chose to take this action and declined to rejoin the team after the …

PV Upsets Softball in PAC-10 Semifinals

Perkiomen Valley Vikings cut short Spring-Ford softball's PAC-10 run, 3-0.

Pitcher Erin Hamm pitched lights out for the Vikings to aid in the 3-0 win over a Spring-Ford Rams squad that defeated PV two years in a row in the Final Four and twice already this season. "Starting off, they outplayed us," said Spring-Ford head coach Tim Hughes. "They deserved to win. They outcoached us. They did everything better than us. We were sleeping and again that's ultimately my fault. I've got to make sure we're ready to go and we weren't ready to go. I don't think we saw our best, but taking nothing away from them. They played their butts off. They deserve to be in the championship game and they definitely beat us. I wish them luck." Ursinus Basketball Player's Studies are 'Out of This World'

Jon Ward to gain research experience in astrophysics lab

With classes having wrapped up for the semester, Ursinus College students might have waves on their mind as summer approaches. Physics major and basketball player Jon Ward is one of them, but the waves he's thinking about are bit different, according to a CBS report. Ward will spend 10 weeks in an astrophysics lab in Paris studying gravitational waves as he fulfills his Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU), the report states. Gravitational waves are "(things) that come out of big astrophysical events such as supernova, black hole, star collapses, stuff like that," Ward is quoted as saying. We Found Our Greatest Sports Fan!

The competition was stiff, but one fan's lifelong commitment was as clear as the ink on her arm.

After weeks of voting, we have a winner in our "Greatest Sports Fan" contest. It was a tough competition with some serious super fans showing off their stuff, but one fan's devotion was so clear, so beautiful, so permanent, that it was pretty clear who had won voters' hearts. Patch reader Tara Sarica submitted the winning photos of a Phillies super fan who's tattoos of Harry Kalas, the Vet, and the Philly Phanatic testify to a lifelong commitment to our Fightin' Phils. Her entry garnered more than half of the 125 votes we received in our contest. We'll be contacting Tara shortly to let her know how she can claim her prize.   Thanks to all of those who entered or voted in our contest. You're all super fans in our books.
