Sandy Sellers Copley Memorial 5K Benefits St. Jude Children's Hospital

Skippack resident Sandy Sellers Copley's memory will be honored for the third consecutive year through the memorial run that raises money toward childhood cancer research.

The Sandy Sellers Copley Memorial 5K will return for its third consecutive year, Saturday, June 15. The event will start at 9 a.m. at the Tiki Bar at Spring Mountain, located at 757 Spring Mount Road in Schwenksville.

According to Sandy’s mother, Charlotte Sellers, the race has grown in popularity since its first year, and continues to commemorate the life of her daughter, Sandy Sellers Copley.

Sandy lived and worked in the Skippack and Trappe areas for 18 years, before she lost her battle with cancer on June 25, 2010, at the age of 43.

Sellers wrote on the Memorial 5K’s website (www.sandywish.org) that Sandy was a wonderful daughter, mother, sister, aunt, friend, as well as an avid runner.

She went on to state that Sandy’s favorite charity was St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“Sandy always said, ‘No child should ever have cancer,’” Sellers said on the website. “It is my hope that her name and her love of children would live on with this event every year.”

The Sandy Sellers Copley Memorial 5K Run will be professionally timed by Pretzel City Sports, and will also feature a one-mile fun walk/run and raffle. Registration for the event costs $20 if postmarked by May 25 and $25 after the date, including day of the race.

Proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

According to the sandywish website, the memorial run has raised over $7,500 for the hospital.
