The Rotary Club of Collegeville will honor three local residents with a
dinner on Oct. 23 at Rivercrest Golf Club.
The event, which begins at 6 p.m., will honor Cathy Kernan of Collegeville as the Citizen of the Year, Matt Sterenczak as Perkiomen Valley Teacher of the Year and Susan Cattie as Methacton Teacher of the Year.
Here is a look at the honorees, from the Collegeville Rotary Club:
Cathy Kernan, Citizen of the Year
Through her tireless efforts, Cathy has brought a great sense of community to Collegeville — helping a quiet borough become a vibrant, interactive and dynamic town. Among her many accomplishments are the Collegeville Farmers Market, Holiday House Tour, and Art and Music Festival.
Matt Sternczak, Perkiomen Valley High School Teacher of the Year
Matt was nominated by his students who have benefitted from his inspiring teacher of world politics, his work transforming Student Council to a leadership-based program, and by his example of continuous learning, adapting new methods of teaching and moving ahead with his own doctorate. Matt serves the students as a track coach, coordinating the ski/snowboard club and an “Assist” team member. In his students’ words, “Every day Matt proves that you can really be whoever you want to be.
Susan Cattie, Methacton High School Teacher of the Year
Susan was nominated by her students, who have benefitted from her thought-provoking gifted program. Susan’s influence and dedication to her students extends beyond the classroom experience. She took a risk in sponsoring the new Interact Club this past year, which was exceptionally successful! She has also sponsored Methacton’s “Relay for Life” Club, and the “Kids against Crisis” Club. As written in the student nomination, “Mrs. Cattie is definitely the teacher to recommend...She puts time and energy into her students and always encourages them to chase after their goals”
