Girl Scouts Give to A Baby's Breath

Local troop donated items to the organization in Collegeville

The following release was submitted by Dyanne Wark:

On March 24, an estimated 150 Girl Scouts from the Spring-Ford Service Unit, met at the for a Baby Shower. The shower was hosted by Daisy Troop 714 and Junior Troop 7902. The guests were asked to bring any baby item, and a wide assortment was included from diapers, formula, and articles of clothing to rattles, bottles, wipes, even a couple of first aid kits were among the offerings.

All of these items were being donated to A Baby’s Breath organization located in the Collegeville area. In return for their generous gifts, the girls got to play games like stroller derby, where they strapped a doll baby into a stroller and, while donning a purse and diaper bag, raced through an obstacle course in relay style race. First team to have all of their girls go through the course and back, won.

Other activities included baby bottle bowling, a dress the baby relay and the interesting game of food tasting – whereby girls were given samples of baby food and asked to identify the flavors. Many of the girls thought that was some of the worst tasting stuff they ever tried and could not believe that for some it had been just 5 years since they were fed the fruits and veggies from a jar.

The items that were collected were packed into Girl Scout cookie case boxes.  An amazing 40 cases were filled and delivered to A Baby’s Breath organization.  A Baby’s Breathe is a non-profit organization that helps new parents who need assistance with prenatal classes, support, and counseling classes.  The program is run primarily by volunteers and  supports the mother/father and unborn child.  For more information on A Baby’s Breath, visit their website http://www.ababysbreath.org/
