Students Learn About Careers, Volunteering at PVHS Event

A motivational speaker also addressed students on Thursday.

Perkiomen Valley High School students had the opportunity to learn from career professionals on Thursday at the school’s career fair, which also included a talk from motivational speaker Jullien Gordon.

Gordon, a motivational speaker, author and performance coach whose company has worked with Fortune 100 companies, start-ups, non-profits and universities to recruit talent and increase productivity, centered his talk on career advancement, finding purpose, goal achievement and closing the college-to-career gap.

The career fair offered a chance for students to circulate with dozens of businesses throughout the area. Professional representatives from the pharmaceutical industry, area hospitals and medical offices, insurance companies, food service, animal care, financial institutions and many other vocations will be available to speak with students, as well a Patch representative.

The Volunteer Fair, held in the auxiliary gym, featured representatives from the Gift of Life Donor Program, the Red Cross, the Jerusalem Community Food Pantry, Cradles to Crayons, March of Dimes and many other non-profits.

Last year, the volunteer fair component was added to educate students on local service opportunities.

“Students who are trying to complete their graduation projects and are working on their transcripts for college are often seeking out service opportunities that will allow them to demonstrate the qualities of civic engagement and social responsibility,” said Patti Colucci, Graduation Project and Career Elective Coordinator at Perkiomen Valley High School. “But often, they are not sure where to find these opportunities. We thought that organizing a Volunteer Fair on the same day that students are learning about careers made sense.”
