Skippack’s Paul Smith Takes Seat on PVSD School Board

Smith will hold the seat vacated by the passing of Capt. Samuel Schweigert through Dec. 31.

Skippack Township resident Paul Smith was welcomed as the newest Perkiomen Valley School Board member on Jan. 14, after being appointed at the Jan. 7 meeting.

The board voted unanimously for Smith to fill the vacancy left by Capt. Samuel Schweigert’s passing.

“Education is important to our society, and I wanted to get involved,” Smith said of his desire to serve the school board.

Smith, who is retired, was initially selected as a potential candidate when the board filled David Warren’s vacat seat over the summer.

Andrea Galambos won the board vote at the time, with three votes going to Smith, according to Montgomery News

Four applicants were being considered for the most recent vacancy. Elizabeth Stolar and Jim Nelson addressed the board to ask for the position.

Smith will hold the position through December of 2013, and will have to run in this year’s general election to hold Schweigert’s seat on the board through 2015.
