PVSD Receives Grant to Purchase iPads for Students with Special Needs

The school will use $5,0000 to purchase five iPads and 'a multitude of applications.'

The Perkiomen Valley School District was awarded a $5,000 grant from CCRS to purchase five iPads and several applications for students with special needs during the 2013-2014 school year.

“We are excited to be able to expand our use of the iPad among our special education population. The iPad is known to be highly motivating for students, and is a terrific tool for teachers who are striving to meet the many unique needs of all of our students,” said Mark McIntyre, Director of Special Education.

The iPads will be used to target different skills and ability levels through apps to increase vocabulary, math skills, reading, phonics, listening comprehension, articulation and other skills, according to the school district.

The devices can also be used to interact socially through picture-to-voice output.
“We are proud to have been chosen as a grant recipient by the CCRES and thank this organization for making it possible for us to provide this technology without a significant financial impact to our district.”

CCRES is a non-profit organization that specializes in providing educational and behavioral health services, working in collaboration with school districts, intermediate units, and the behavioral health system.
