PV Teacher Naomi Rodriguez Recognized for Obtaining National Board Certification

Rodriguez teaches math at Perkiomen Valley Middle School East

The following is from the Perkiomen Valley School Board's agenda meeting, which can be found on the Perkiomen Valley School District website.

The Board of School Directors would like to recognize Naomi Rodriguez, who teaches math at . Ms. Rodriguez completed the process of earning her National Board Certification this past November and is now one of PV’s very few Nationally Board-Certified Teachers.

In order to achieve this distinguished certification, which is awarded by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, a teacher must complete a very lengthy and rigorous application process that involves documenting one’s accomplishments as a teacher, filming videos of one’s instruction in the classroom, and demonstrating content knowledge.  Through the process, teachers have the opportunity to analyze their own practices and gain a better understanding of their own professional strengths and weaknesses. Those who obtain certification can become scorers who then evaluate other applicants, enabling them to see what practices their peers are using to improve instruction and outcomes for all students.  In addition, the certification gives teachers more authority, which is useful if they want to submit articles for educational journals, as Ms. Rodriguez plans to do.
