Perkiomen Valley Field Hockey Beats Methacton

This win secures a spot in the PAC-10 Finals for Perkiomen Valley.

Erik Enters submitted the following information:

won Tuesday night’s senior game 1-0. PV had 15 shots on goal and had 21 corners. Methacton goalie, Alyssa Rothman had 12 saves and the Methacton Defense made two defensive saves on the goal-line.  Audree Bonavita played very well for the Vikings turning away seven shots – the final diving save with 20 seconds left in the game to preserve her eighth shutout of the season.

Perk Valley scored its’ goal in the first half at the 8:09 mark. It was scored by Chandler Giese off a corner play with a nice feed coming from Annie Himsworth.

The second half featured a physical Methacton team that pressed hard to turn the momentum around.  PV did not back down and weathered the storm as well as the hard tackling from the Warriors. At the 20:10, Alexa Hoover was given a yellow card and sent off for 5 minutes. This took some wind from Methacton’s sails and PV pressed its advantage earn multiple corner opportunities. If not for some solid defensive work around goalie Alyssa Rothman, the score would have been pushed to 2-0.

The final five minutes were very tense as both teams moved the ball up and down the field creating scoring chances. The fine play of PV’s defense anchored by Jules Carfagno kept Methacton from getting off any uncontested shots.  Deidre Smith and Rachel Hamm were rock solid on the wing back positions and did a great job of stepping strongly to the 50/50 balls.

PV moves to 12-4 overall and 10-2 in the PAC-10. This win secures a spot in the PAC-10 Finals for Perkiomen Valley.  They will be facing off against Upper Perkiomen in the semi-final game next Tuesday.
