Perk Valley Middle School Students Re-Elect President Obama

Students from PV East and West voted on Oct. 23, deciding to give the President four more years in office.

President Barack Obama earned 273 electoral votes in the Perkiomen Valley Middle School mock election to Mitt Romney's 265, easily winning re-election on Oct. 23.

The voting process at Perkiomen Valley Middle School East and West, which yielded 764 popular votes for Obama and 578 for Romney, was about as close to authentic as students under the age of 18 could have.

During lunch periods leading up to the election, voter registration drives were held in the schools' cafeterias.  Students signed up to vote, and their names were checked off the registry as they voted.

Students entered authentic Montgomery County voting booths to cast their ballots for U.S. President, votes were tallied by machine and paper ballots.

The voters were able to keep track of the running total via announcements, and at PV West, a map in the hallway monitored the results.

To add to the authenticity of the process, students were also separated into "states" by homerooms, and each state delivered votes to the electoral college.

Trivia contests earlier in October dictated which homeroom got states with the most Electoral College votes.

These mock elections are happening all over. This Tennessee kid's quote perhaps sums it up best:
Romney supporter Ann Hibler, a sophomore, said she feels President Obama often contradicted himself in the live debates. Learning about the process has inspired her to more closely follow politics even after the election, she said. “It seems like all politicians lie; you just have to figure out who’s best at it,” Hibler said. http://www.tennessean.com/viewart/20121025/GALLATIN01/310250087/GHS-students-pick-Romney-mock-election

Wonder what the policy is when the family doesn't want to shell-out a few hundred dollars for aRead More ring. Sounds to me like a nice kick-back to the school from the lucky vender who supplies the rings.
