Perk Valley HS Collecting Donations for Anti-Bullying Program

'Challenge Day' was put on hold to save costs in the 2013-2014 school year; this year, the high school is collecting $4,000 to bring it back.

The Perkiomen Valley High School is working to raise $4,000 to bring back Challenge Day, an nationally-recognized anti-bullying program that had been a staple in the high school until last year when it was cut due to costs.

Challenge Day is nearly seven-hour program that brings 100 students together to discuss how they can “be the change” in their school by expressing themselves in positive ways, according to the school district.

“Through music, games and other activities, participants learn to recognize various stereotypes and labels that can be hurtful, and are provided with examples of healthy ways to express emotion,” said a statement from PVHS.

The program received an “outstanding” response in the past, “causing PV to take one huge step toward the elimination of hatred and bullying permanently from our school,” according to the school.

"Challenge Day changed my life," said PVHS student Sarah Bryan.  "It made me look at everything in a new way. In situations I thought I was alone in, I learned that day that you are never alone."

The school suggests that if just 100 parents donated $40, the high school would have the funds to put on the program.

To donate to Challenge Day, mail a check made out to “Perkiomen Valley High School” with a line designating funds towards “Challenge Day” to Perkiomen Valley High School, 509 Gravel Pike, Collegeville, PA 19426.
