Collegeville's first Montessori School

Collegeville’s first Montessori School—with credentialed teachers trained in the famous method’s guided instructional approach—is opening in the Borough on September 3rd. The goal of the school is to provide students aged six weeks through six years with an early foundation that facilitates a positive attitude towards school, an inner security, a sense of order, pride in the physical environment, abiding curiosity, and a habit of concentration, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility.

Before now, area parents who wanted their children to experience a Montessori education had to travel to either Phoenixville or Royersford.

The Providence Montessori School House, located at 115 Second Ave., is opening in the former Goddard School day care center, but parents who were familiar with the interior of the previous center may not recognize it now.  Co-founders Amy Augustine and Cassandra Maloney have put $80,000 of renovations into the building.

Both Augustine and Maloney hold a strong belief in the importance of a quality early education.  The daily details of life at the school are guided by the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, who was twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for designing a curriculum that honors children’s natural aptitude for acquiring knowledge.

The two co-founders were determined to find a location convenient for Collegeville area parents who want the best early education for their children and would consider the Providence Montessori School House’s educational experience as an investment in their children’s future. “We know there are many people working and living in this area who place a high value on a top-notch education as an important foundation for their children,” Augustine explained.  “In addition to offering the Montessori Method of teaching, which serves the whole child, we also believe it is important to provide the children with healthy snacks and are including programs in music and movement and exercise.”

The business partners, who have 25 years’ experience in business management and education between them, are hosting personal tours of the school upon request to help parents become familiar with the school’s day-to-day schedule and to explain the enrollment process. “For those who have already enrolled, it has been wonderful getting to know each family and child on an individual basis. As this school grows, I can see a wonderful community of families forming of those who already know a great deal about the Montessori Method and those who are just learning,” says Augustine.
