Building a Community

Building a Community
Authored by Matthew Mitlas

When you begin your journey to heal, you are will most likely find new challenges that have always been in your life but that you have not been aware of. Understanding these challenges can sometimes be difficult as they manifest in habitual relationships and habitual thoughts and actions. In order to understand, cope, and transform these challenges into opportunities, it is important to have a support group of like minded people who will help you on the way. This group of people will be considered community; and they will be there for you without judgment when you find yourself needing support.

It can be challenging to find a community. Sometimes it seems like everywhere you turn is another person who is out for him/her self. Where do the people who listen and support each other hang out? Your best place to turn to is a place of wellness where you know like-minded people will be. This is why R3 is here for you! When you take a workshop or class at R3 Wellness Center, you are entering into a community of like-minded people who will listen without judgment, share in your challenges and successes, and make the business of life a little easier to bear. The opportunities to build friendships and resources are right at your disposal here at R3. We only hope you will take advantage of it!

When you begin to participate in a community, it is important to understand your responsibilities in the group as well. The main thing about being in a community is to treat others the way you would like to be treated. Make an effort to listen to others without judgment. Just be there for others- you don’t need to try to give advice or to console. The act of just being with another is incredibly therapeutic for both parties. You should be willing to celebrate the successes of others and yourself! A community is a place to feel safe and accepted no matter who you are. Let that begin with you. You will soon find that the effort you make to support others is returned to you tenfold- by the people whom you support and others!

At R3, we understand that you are on your own journey, on your own time. There is no requirement or expectation for you to show up to every workshop or class! We just want you to know that we and our beautiful group of clients and practitioners are here to help you be the best you. And when you decide to seek support from a like-minded group of people who are genuinely interested in your health, successes, and growth, know that we are here for you. See you soon!
