Toepel’s Bill on PVSD Funding Signed Into Law

Due to a change in state policy, Perkiomen Valley and Methacton school districts were at risk of losing funding from properties in Evansburg State Park.

A new piece of legislation sponsored by local State Representative Marcy Toepel was signed into law by Governor Tom Corbett, which ensures that the Perkiomen Valley School District will continue to receive funds for tax-exempt land in Evansburg State Park.

“I am pleased that this law passed through the General Assembly with bipartisan support, and that my colleagues realize the importance of making sure that schools receive all the necessary funding that are due to them,” said Toepel. “This law, combined with the increase in education funding under the final state budget, will help provide our local school districts with adequate funding to continue delivering a high quality education to our youth.”

The legislations amends the Forest Reserves Municipal Financial Relief Law, reducing the number of portions of land on Evansburg State Park Property that must be leased in order for payments to be made to the school district; currently, the number is 75. Once the law takes effect in 60 days, only 30 portions of the land have to be leased.
