Deadline for Property Tax and Rent Rebate is Nearing

The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters.

Information Provided by State Rep. Mark Painter:

State Rep. Mark Painter reminds older adults and people with disabilities that the deadline to apply for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is Dec. 31.

"In recent years, organizations have sent letters offering to file the forms for a fee. There is no charge for filing these forms, so people should ignore any solicitation that charges money to help them file and contact my office for free assistance," said Painter, D-Montgomery.

This year’s forms are for rebates on property taxes or rent paid in 2012. The program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians 65 or older, widows and widowers 50 or older, and people with disabilities 18 or older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters. Only half of your Social Security, Supplemental Security or federal Railroad Retirement Tier I income is counted toward the limit.
