Church Road Park Improvements Won't Include Walking Trail

After dozens of residents objected to a proposed walking trail due to reported mischief in the area, the Skippack Township Board of Supervisors revamped its plans for park improvements.

The Skippack Board of Supervisors on Wednesday approved a bid of just under $100,000 for improvements to Church Road Park, not including a proposed walking trails that brought out dozens of residents in opposition at the board's June meeting.

“Due to [the] concerns, I removed the walking trail component from the bid specs and put that off to some future date if it becomes warranted," said Skippack Township Engineer Timothy Woodrow.

According to Woodrow, the bid includes creating a parking area where the basketball sits currently, moving the basketball court, and adding landscaping.

This bid is the first step in park renovations, Woodrow said.

“The next step will be some lighting and cameras for security,” said board chairman Franco D’Angelo.

One of a small group of residents in attendance asked if new playground equipment would be added; the board said it would be moved initially, and possibly touched up, but nothing new would be installed yet.

"We want to try it first, before they vandalize the new stuff," said D'Angelo.

D'Angelo thanked the residents who attended he meeting in June and provided feedback.

"With your input, this is where we are today," Franco said.  "I hope it's more inline with what you want"
