Area Police Receive Training for School Programs

Lower Frederick Police Department's Chief Paul Maxey submitted the following information:

is hosting a traffic safety educational program training on Wednesday, Jan. 25, coordinated by the Montgomery County Health Department and Buckle Up Pennsylvania. This free training for police officers is funded through a traffic safety initiative from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Local police departments attending the training include, , Lower Frederick, Franconia, , , , Upper Perkiomen District and the . A total of three regional trainings have been arranged with Plymouth Police Department and Upper Gwynedd Police Department also hosting this month. The police officers attending the trainings will learn how to effectively deliver the following police traffic safety educational programs: “Survival 101”, “16 Minutes” and “The Back Is Where It’s At.” These programs can be implemented in schools for all age groups.

Death and injury from motor vehicle crashes is the leading cause of injury death for ages 5-24 years in Montgomery County. Traffic safety enforcement coupled with these educational programs will serve to continue the recent decline in injury and death in this younger population.
