Upper Providence police cited
a Lancaster woman for summary traffic offenses after allegedly causing a
crash that killed Royersford resident John Newett, who was driving
a motorcycle through the intersection of Route 29 and Arcola Road around 1 p.m. on Sept. 21.
Newett, 65, died Sept. 22 due to the injuries he sustained while traveling eastbound through the intersection of Route 29 and Arcola Road with another motorcycle.
According to police, Newett had a green light; Elaine B. Sinclair, 60, of Holtwood, allegedly traveled through a red light in an SUV and struck Newett.
After Upper Providence Police and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office investigated the crash, Sinclair was cited with failure to stop at a red signal and careless driving – unintentional death.
“There’s been an extensive investigation into the accident,” said First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele, according to the Pottstown Mercury. “It was determined that there would be summary violations. However, based upon the evidence of the case, it did not rise up to homicide.”
Steele said that Sinclair’s blood was tested after the crash; there was nothing to cause driving under the influence.
Based on the citations, Sinclair could receive points on her license and could be ordered to pay a $500 fine.
