Two Burglars At-Large, One Captured After Lower Salford Burglary, Police Say

Rigoberto Cintron-Bermudez, 26, of Rose Street, Reading, was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding, conspiracy, aggravated assault and simple assault, according to court records.

Two burglars escaped Lower Salford Township Police apprehension Tuesday, but one suspected burglar was captured, according to reports.

Both suspects are described as Hispanic males, wearing long pants, and one has a ponytail, according to authorities.

Shortly before noon Tuesday, Lower Salford Township Police interrupted a burglary on the 900 block of Lucon Road.After pursuit in a Ford station wagon, one male was taken into custody near Fretz and Camp roads in Franconia Township. 

The driver, Rigoberto Cintron-Bermudez, 26, of Rose Street, Reading, was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding, conspiracy, aggravated assault and simple assault, according to court records.

Vernfield Elementary and Salford Hills Elementary were put on notice and students and faculty were sheltered in place, police said.

The car was stopped in the Lower Salford Elementary School parking lot, police said, but the driver allegedly fled, causing a pursuit through three municipalities.

Police conducted a search for the two other burglars from the East Branch of the Perkiomen Creek in the village of Morwood west to Sumneytown Pike, according to reports.

Cintron-Bermudez was arraigned before District Judge William Maruszczak, who set bail at $50,000 cash, according to court records. Cintron-Bermudez was taken to Montgomery County Correctional Facility, police said.

A large amount of stolen property, including firearms, electronics and jewelry, was recovered, per The Souderton Independent.

Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania State Police Air Support, Limerick Township Police Department K-9 Unit, Franconia Township Police Department, Upper Perk Police District, Marlborough Township Police Department and Towamencin Township Police Department assisted in the search, Lower Salford Township Police Department told Souderton Independent.
