DUI arrests doubled between 2011 and this year during the Christmas Holiday Enforcement Period from Dec. 21 to Dec. 25, according to Troop K of the Pennsylvania State Police.
Troop K, which covers highways in Philadelphia, Delaware and Montgomery Counties, as well as numerous municipalities without police departments, reported 32 DUI arrests and 794 citations over the five-day reporting period in 2012, compared to 16 DUI arrests and 709 citations over the same period in 2011.
Troop K also reported 109 crashes, eight of which were alcohol related, which resulted in zero fatalities during the holiday period in 2012.
In 2011, police handled 115 crashes during the same timeframe, six of which were alcohol related.
