A man is in custody after shots were reportedly fired on Wednesday evening when a Marlborough Township police officer responded to the scene of a domestic dispute in Green Lane.
The incident took place at about 6:45 p.m. on the Main Street section of Sumneytown Pike in the borough. No injuries were reported.
Marlborough Police Chief Darren Morgan said police originally responded to a domestic call, but a neighbor fired a gun into the ground as the police officer arrived, according to the Morning Call http://bit.ly/VkQMgy.
The woman involved in the domestic dispute went to the neighbor's house to call the police, the article said. Morgan did not know why the neighbor fired the gun, but he is in custody and charges are pending.
About 30 minutes after the incident, a county-wide emergency radio broadcast was issued for a white Mazda 6 that was last seen headed westbound on Sumneytown Pike from the scene.
A section of Sumneytown Pike in Green Lane was partially closed for an investigation Wednesday night. One lane of traffic was able to get through the crime scene area. Police could be seen in the driveway of a residence along Sumneytown Pike near Perkiomenville Road. The property was cordoned off with crime scene tape. A sign indicating that the property is for sale was visible.
A representative from the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety said that county detectives were assisting with the investigation at the scene. Additional units responding to the call include the Marlborough and Upper Perkiomen Police Departments, the Pennsylvania State Police and fire police from the Upper Salford Volunteer Fire Company.
We're monitoring the incident, and we'll update the story as soon as more information becomes available.
