More than 40 pounds of drug-laced candy have been seized at an apartment on the West Chester University campus, according to the Chester County District Attorney's office.

The candy laced with THC, the active chemical in marijuana, was found in an apartment at in the 800 block of South New Street on the University's South Campus, according to the Attorney General's office.  The A.G's office did not specify when the drugs were seized and no suspects in the case have been named.

The drug-laced candy was found in sizes ranging from a small hard candy to something as big as an orange. Authorities say it had been wrapped in plastic and packaged for distribution.

Authorities say "the investigation started when police found several WCU students in a car on campus with the smell of marijuana coming from the car." That led to interviews with the people in the car which eventually led University Police to the apartment where the drugs were found.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Patrick Carmody says "this appears to be an isolated inceident and we have seized all of the drugs involved. But it is a good time to remind parents to check the candy collected by their children during Halloween and to discard anything that looks suspicious. We want all of our kids to stay safe."

Authorities say this is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information should contact the West Chester University Police or Chester County Detectives at (610)692-5100.
