At least one person is dead and an unknown number of persons have been wounded in a shooting at a school in southwestern Connecticut on Friday morning.

Newtown (CT) Patch reports that local officials are in the process of trying to reunite parents with their children, at least some of whom remain inside the school.

Numerous reports have stated that a gunman inside the school is dead, while another may be at large. Officials have thus far declined to provide any information on the number or the condition of any victims.

One witness who was in a house across the street from the school told Patch that she heard 10 to 12 gunshots at about 9:40 a.m.

A parent said their her child's teacher had sheltered her daughter's class in the classroom closet when she learned that a gunman was in the school.

Police were reportedly seen leading children out of the school in class groups. Some children reportedly had visible blood on their clothing.

It's time to bring down the NRA fiction, that the 2nd Amendment authorizes unrestricted gun ownership. the 2nd Amendment guarantees the "right to bear arms' so as to have a well-regulated militia to defend the country, not so as to defend oneself. I haven't seen these NRA types out on the green at Mondauk Park engaged in close-order drill to prepare to defend the country.

President Obama's speech was very moving and is a good starting point in the crusade to end these senseless 'mass killings' involving automatic weapons. But he can do next to nothing on his own. He will need the cooperation of literally the most "do-nothing" Congress in the history of our Republic. And the only way they will do anything is ironically by holding a gun to their collective heads. We have to call/e-mail & text their offices, both in Washington & their home offices & demand they take immediate action!! They only thing these career political hacks fear is the prospect of getting voted out of office & having to get an honest job; where you get fired for not actually doing what you were hired to do. Novel indeed. So, if we are all serious about addressing and ultimately ending these 'mass killings, we will need to start calling, e-mailing & texting our elected officials and stay at it until our wishes can not be ignored.

While we argue over gun control, we miss the true issue at the heart of these horrific incidents. We have raised a generation of young people that have no regard for human life, have no hope for the future, and have no sense of morality. The gun used is merely a tool to carry out an evil presence in their hearts. Many say the death toll would be less without the high capacity magazines, but are fewer killings acceptable to you? Would you prefer five children dead, rather than twenty? The sociopathic behavior of these young shooters is not an anomoly. It is a way of life for a generation of Americans, spawned by the loss of morality in our society, replaced by a sense of entitlement to whatever we want, and by any means necessary. These incidents become marketing opportunities for the media. They become campaign opportunities for politicians. And no one speaks of the real problem, because the media and government have had a hand in creating the cancer that is spreading throughout our society. The real issue isn't the tool used to commit the murders. The real issue is the loss of conscience, of humanity, of restraint, of hope for a future, in our younger generation. You cannot legislate decency in people. It has to be instilled in us through a loving family and caring, responsible society. We are losing these values in American society. You can argue all you want over gun control, but it will do nothing to control the evil we are breeding in future generation of Americans.

Truth is we kill more men, women, and children than that just about every day overseas. No Problem. They're not us.
