FC Providence Soccer Scores at National Tournament!

FC Providence Athletico U13 Boys soccer team traveled to Herndon, VA the weekend of March 8th to play in the Annandale Premier Cup Tournament. Athletico earned 3rd place in their bracket. They started off the weekend with a 0-0 draw against Marlton SC Lightning Red, the number 12 team in New Jersey. Their only loss of the weekend had Athletico falling 2-0 against SAC Premiere Blue, the 3rd ranked team in Northern Ohio. The boys finished strong on Sunday March 9th defeating Capital Area Casa Capa 2K United, a team from Harrisburg that is currently ranked 14th in the PA East Region. Their hard work this weekend has FC Providence Athletico currently ranked as the number 11 team in the PA East Region. All rankings provided are from GotSoccer.com.


The APC Premier Cup, founded by Scott Becker in 2009 is considered among the most competitive in the nation and features 480 domestic and international teams. The APC Boys Weekend has 26 teams nationally ranked in the top 10 of their age group.


“I am extremely proud of the boys and all the hard work they’ve put in.” said Athletico head coach Brian Mitchell. “We are going up against clubs that draw from a much larger talent pool and to have our boys achieving the levels of success they do is outstanding. This is a very high profile tournament with great teams, we were very happy with our results.”

The team is anchored by their defense and goalkeeping, which allowed only 2 goals over the course of the tournament. They finished 2nd in New Jersey’s EDP 2013 Fall League 2nd Division South with a record of 4-1-1 scoring 15 goals and only giving up 3. This highly decorated team was also the D1 Champion of the 2012 CPYSC Blast Tournament. In 2011 they were the Turkey Hill State Cup D2 Champions, the Delco Fall League D2 Champions, YSC Winter Indoor Champions, CPYSC Blast D1 Tournament Champions,Ukrainian Nationals Invitational D2 Champions and the Tim RIggs Invitational Champions.
